Got a cat-shaped hole in your heart? Well have I got felines for you—at Canberra Cat Fest 2023!

And I’m not kitten around—after the success of its inaugural event last year, Canberra Street Cat Alliance has promised a bigger and better festival dedicated to celebrating our feline overlords!

Whether you’ve already achieved your cat lady status, or—like me—are still aspiring for the coveted title, you’ll need no excuses to meow about cats until the cows come home this Saturday 22 July. Canberra Street Cat Alliance (CSCA) is hosting Canberra Cat Fest 2023 at the Old Bus Depot Markets in Kingston, and purr-mise a cat-tastic time!

Cat Fest is filled with activities that will keep you worshipping the ground upon which our beloved furry friends walk. There will be market stalls selling locally handmade items, as well as local breeders, rescues, and welfare organisations ready to answer any cat-related questions that you have. The event will also host a range of presentations from cat specialists, including cat behaviourist Dr Eloise Bright.

Stray Cat Alley is perfect for kids and the kids-at-heart, offering a plethora of games and prizes! Not to mention the Kiddy Kat Zone, best dressed competition (kid, adult, and kitty categories available!), and the opportunity to adopt your new best friend (or ruler—depending on your personal preference). There will be food and drink, and for the adults Black Cat Cocktails will be running cocktail classes!

Make sure to grab your tickets for entry, with all profits from the Canberra Cat Fest event going towards CSCA to support the work they do in the Canberra community. Adults cost $20, while children aged between two and 15 cost $10. Wanting to make a family day out of the fun? Family tickets are $54.26 for two adults and two children! Tickets also include multi-game passes for use in Stray Cat Alley, with children getting five free games, and adults getting three. And the paw-sitively best part is if you buy your tickets by Friday 14 July, your name goes into a draw to win a personal kitten cuddle session with some of the fur-babies who will be attending Cat Fest. Truly, there is no such thing as too many cat cuddles!

First held last October, Canberra Cat Fest is organised by CSCA, a local not-for-profit rescue organisation, and raises much needed funds to help support the work they do in the community. Their mission is to humanely reduce the population of street cats in Canberra and the surrounding region, through trapping, fostering, and rehoming. They rely entirely on their network of foster carers and volunteers to run programs and fundraising events and operate solely from donations and fundraising.

So, make sure you’re the cat that gets the cream and make a day of Canberra Cat Fest 2023!
