Grab your disco pants – here are four events where you can boogie the night away

The days of disco are here.

If you wanna dance with somebody there are plenty of places to ‘go out’ in Canberra – but for those looking for something to put a little bit more pep into their two-step, there are plenty of events coming up to don some disco pants.

Here’s where you can go in Canberra for some groovy tunes (aside from the usual clubs and pubs).

One Night In Heaven

Heaven Nightclub existed during what most people would agree was the golden age of Canberra clubbing. Open from 1993 – 2001 and located upstairs in Garema Place, Heaven was beloved by so many Canberrans – and now it’s back for one very special night only.

As part of the 2024 SpringOUT Pride Festival, Canberra’s joyous annual celebration of our city’s LGBTIQA+ community, One Night In Heaven will quite literally allow you to party like it’s 1999. Think: DJs, drag performances, performance art, and more until 5 am.

Saturday 30 November, 8 pm – 5 pm | The Vault, Dairy Road, Fyshwick | Book here.

Retro Silent Disco

Transforming Gandel Atrium at the National Museum of Australia into a giant dance floor (complete with a bar) overlooking Lake Burley Griffin, you won’t want to miss this.

Complete with nightclub-quality lights, visual effects, and three amazing DJs simultaneously playing three uniquely themed DJ sets, on arrival at this silent disco you’ll be supplied with a set of wireless, light-up headphones so you can dance along to your favourite hits.

With each DJ playing different sets dedicated to a different decade of music – the 80s, 90s, and 2000s – you can curate your night as you switch between bangers ranging from Queen to NSYNC. Take off your headphones for a snippet of the wildest jumble of mass karaoke you’ve ever heard and get ready to tear up the dance floor!

Friday 13 December, 7.30 pm – 11 pm | National Museum of Australia, Lawson Crescent, Acton | Book here.

Bed By 10

Looking for an event where you DON’T have to dance until dawn? Luckily for those of us who fancy going out for a dance without sacrificing the next day, Bed by 10 is coming to Canberra.

Promising the ultimate clubbing experience – complete with crazy visuals, confetti showers, Co2 cannons, and 80s, 90s, and early 2000s club classics – for five hours you can relive your clubbing days.

The best part? It finishes at 8 pm, so you’ll be in bed long before 10 pm. A sensible (but still outrageously fun) clubbing adventure? It sounds like the perfect night out.

Saturday 22 February, 3 pm – 8 pm | 23 Alexandrina Drive, Yarralumla | Join the waitlist here.

Lise and Sarah’s DISCO CLUB

For women, by women. This event is everything you miss about clubbing and nothing you don’t.
Created by best friends and podcasters, Lise Carlaw and Sarah Willis, DISCO CLUB began as a simple conversation about how much they missed nights out dancing with their girlfriends.

Promising an unforgettable night out dancing to hits from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s—as well as some more modern bangers – for one night only Lise and Sarah will be bringing their DISCO Club to Canberra.

And with an early start and finish time (arrivals from 6 pm with a 10 pm finish), you can press pause on life without giving up your whole night. Don your sparkles or sneakers – this night out is all about feeling good.

Saturday 15 March, 6 pm – 10 pm | Location to be announced | Book here.
