Head to Boogong for a scarily good party this Halloween
Posted on
It’s going to be freak-tastic!
On Saturday 27 October, Googong’s annual family-friendly Halloween party will invade this sleepy township just a half-hour drive south-east of Canberra. Whether you’re a dedicated trick-or-treater or a Halloween newbie, Boogong is the place to be this weekend for food, fun and frights.
Halloween originated over 2000 years ago with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. Then, it was incorporated into the tradition of All Saints Day and spread all over the world. In Australia, the celebration is becoming increasingly popular as a fun reason to dress up and revel in all things spooky.

As one of the largest Halloween celebrations in Australia, Boogong is going to be bigger and better than ever this year. There’ll be a creepy cabaret show featuring high-flying aerial divas Scare in the Air, acrobats, stilt walkers and a knife-juggling unicyclist.
Featuring more than 20 gourmet food vendors on the night to feed the hungry hordes with spooky treats, the cabaret show will end with spectacular fireworks at 9pm. Start putting together your ghoulish costume, because there’ll also be a great prize for best dressed. Little monsters will be able to run wild at the junior disco, so parents can enjoy a relaxed evening of entertainment.
Thanks to Googong township developers Peet and Mirvac, this free celebration is open to residents of Googong and visitors alike to embrace their ghostly side.

“The event has moved to Rockley Oval with a big show on the big stage,” explains Peet Development Director Penny Forrest. “There will be pop-up performances all through the night, roving entertainers and a kids’ disco so mum and dad can relax knowing their little monsters are safely amused.
“But the real attraction is the crowd. The Googong community adores Boogong and they turn out in force, visitors come from far and wide and the costumes and makeup are amazing.
“It’s a brilliant place for people-watching. You are in for a magical night when you see 10,000 witches, mummies and superheroes strutting their stuff and having a great time.”
