Kristen and Nige: radio’s newest breakfast duo

Posted on

He is back. Well-known radio host Nige is returning to the airwaves full-time

And he is going to be sitting next to one of our favourites – Kristen Henry. It’s a partnership that promises to be as good a combination as eggs on toast as the two take over MIX 106.3’s number 1 breakfast show from Monday.

It’s also good news for generations of Nige fans, who lost the veteran broadcaster in 2016, when he did a stint in corporate affairs before returning to the station’s creative department.

Meanwhile, Wilco, who has been brightening our morning drives to work has earned a long-deserved sleep-in and will swap to the drive home, ‘The Wilko Show with Courts’ which also starts on Monday as well.

Nige is, frankly, beside himself.

“On a scale of one to ten, one being ‘I’m not excited at all’ and ten being ‘Straight-up, If I was any more excited, I would probably turn inside out and spontaneously wink out of existence’, I’m sitting at about a twelve right now,” he said.

Kristen is also pretty happy. “Nige has been a very dear friend for ten years. It is truly a privilege to welcome him back to Breakfast and be able to laugh with that beautiful man and get paid for it. It just means the kitchen conversations we have every day have to be moved to behind mics and a little earlier in the day.”

“The man has been on Canberra radio for the best part of 20 years. I’ve been on MIX Breakfast for six. Jesus that made me feel old working that out… but between us, we have some stories. Can’t wait to welcome this Canberra legend back.”

Rod Cuddihy, content director, said the new line-up made MIX106.3 “categorically the most local line up offered by any station in Canberra”.

“To welcome a guy described as the ‘King of Canberra radio’ back to breakfast is unbelievable. For that to coincide with the return of Canberra’s most awarded News Reader – Kate Rice to breaky makes it even more special,” he says.

“The fact they are decade-long mates probably makes this the most familiar new show in Australia…and definitely the most ‘Canberra’ show in Canberra!”

Rod thanked Wilko for helping deliver the station’s highest ratings last year in 15 years and said the move to Drive meant that “MIX listeners get all Canberra’s favourite personalities on the way to work and on the way home.”
