Melbourne Cup at Thoroughbred Park 2019: everything you need to know

Still haven’t decided where to watch the race that stops the nation? We’ve got you covered.

The Melbourne Cup is one of the biggest events on Canberra’s calendar for racing fans and fashionistas alike. And when it comes to venues, Thoroughbred Park is always a clear frontrunner.

This year is no different, with food, fashion and good old-fashion horse racing set to hit the track.

Thoroughbred Park offers an atmosphere as close to Flemington as you can get in the capital, with the big race shown on screen and all the excitement of live local racing in the lead-up. There’ll be multiple DJs throughout the course, plus live band Something Like This playing your favourite tunes to keep the party going.

Food trucks from Sonoma Bakery, Cannoli Brothers, The Italian Traveller, Jacko’s Pizza and Spit Shack alongside pop-up bars stocked with sparkling wine, craft beer and Altina’s Zero Proof Craft Cocktails, will be on hand to keep you fed and watered throughout the day.

If you’re planning on trying your luck at the Fashions on the Field, don’t forget your fascinator. This year will be hotly contested, with springtime sparkles and bright colours on the cards. (Keep an eye out for our chat with judge Kristen Henry for her expert tips and tricks.)

The first 500 people through the gates will receive a gift pack, with drinks vouchers, a TAB betting voucher and more inside. There’ll also be a complimentary bus to the Duxton in O’Connor after the race to keep the party animals happy. If you’d rather head back to the city, catching the light rail to and from the track makes for a stress-free day out.

General admission is included in membership and members may purchase up to two Members’ Enclosure Tickets for $50. Non-members are welcome at the track, with entry starting from $25 per adult.

There are a range of food and drink packages to choose from on the day, so get in touch with the Thoroughbred Park team if you’re interested in organising the perfect day out for your friends or colleagues.
