Gather your Minions: it’s a free dance party!

Posted on

If your little one loves Minions, they’re in for a treat—this July they’ll have the chance to dance with them at Marketplace Gungahlin.

The winter school holidays are about to get a whole lot more despicable (in a good way).

Are your kids just a little obsessed with the crazy yellow Minions from Despicable Me? On Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July, they’ll have the chance to dance with the adorable Minions and Gru at Marketplace Gungahlin.

The second Minions movie, Minions: The Rise of Gru, is set to hit screens in 2020. It is another prequel to Despicable Me, telling the origin story of how the Minions started working for Gru, back when he was an evil super-villain.

In the meantime, the Minions will be having a dance party at Marketplace where the kids can learn some moves, then there’ll be the opportunity to snap some family photos with the cheeky stars during an active character meet and greet.

Hanging out with the Minions will help kick off the first weekend of the school holidays with a bang (and you can even grab some groceries while you’re at it). There will be three half-hour sessions to choose from, at 10 am, 11 am and 12 pm each day, taking place directly outside Big W.

Marketplace is also running lots more free activities every day of the school holidays. There’ll be sand and craft play, plus popular children’s characters roaming around the centre to surprise the little ones.

In the first week, there will be sensory play activities happening every day Monday to Friday from 10.30 am –1.30 pm, including face painting, scratch art with coloured sand and a magic sand table with different sand activities each day.

On the weekend of 13 and 14 July, the Meet Your Favourite Characters event will take place from 11 am – 1 pm. Come say hello and grab a photo with your favourite characters, as princesses, snowmen, ice queens and tigers roam the centre.

The second week of the holidays is all about craft, with different activities on offer from Monday to Friday 10.30 am – 1.30 pm. Kids can play with building straws, play dough, collage, sticking and gluing, the sand table and crayon rubbing every day, plus make their own grass heads on Monday, enjoy bug magnet weaving on Tuesday, make their own wind chime on Wednesday, design their own frisbee on Thursday and make their own kaleidoscope on Friday.

On the weekend of 20 and 21 July, the kids will have another chance to meet their favourite characters from 11 am – 1 pm, with cowboys, dinosaurs and superheroes visiting the centre.

Marketplace Gungahlin is easy to reach via light rail and there’s also plenty of parking if you’re planning on taking the car. Check out the website for more information about all the school holiday fun.
