Canberra Night Noodle Markets at Enlighten Festival

The Night Noodle Markets are an annual favourite of Canberra foodies! With many stalls to discover, these markets will be sure to spruce up your feed, providing you with an abundance of insta-worthy meals for the ‘gram. Enjoy your meal while you enjoy illuminations and entertainment.


Hive Mind

Museum of Australian Democracy

Old Parliament House’s King’s Hall transforms into a buzzing beehive for Enlighten! Visitors are encouraged to write their best life lesson or words of advice, on a honeycomb-shaped cell that fits into the wall like a puzzle. Be a part of this artwork with responses from thousands of people from different generations, cultures and identities.


Enlighten Illuminations at Enlighten Festival

28 February to 9 March
Parliamentary Triangle

Watch Canberra’s iconic sights come to light after dark with the Enlighten illuminations. Watch moving projections on buildings such as Parliament House, The National Library of Australia, Questacon and more! Whilst these projections play, listen to live music and enjoy interactive instalments, including a neon night garden!


Lights! Canberra! Action! at Enlighten Festival

7 March
Senate Rose Gardens, Museum of Australian Democracy

Lights! Canberra! Action! shines light on talented local filmmakers who have been tasked with creating seven-minute short films exploring the theme ‘planted’, and incorporating 10 dictated items. If that’s not enough, these impressive filmmakers have just 10 days to shoot, edit and produce their film!

Take a picnic rug and a blanket and enjoy some food from local vendors whilst enjoying a night in the Senate Rose Gardens.


Canberra Balloon Spectacular at Enlighten Festival

7 to 15 March

Lawns of Old Parliament House

Waking up early is worth it when you get to see hot air balloons take off! Held over nine days, more than 30 hot air balloons from around the world are lifted off into our skies. Things kick off each morning at 6:15am, with hot drinks, live music and delicious breakfast complementing the balloons.

Please note this is a weather-dependent event. Makre sure you check the Enlighten website at 6:15am for daily updates.


Summer Sounds 2020

7 to 22 March

National Film and Sound Archive of Australia

As part of an epic event program to celebrate the Australian National Botanic Gardens’ 50th Anniversary, Summer Sounds 2020 is set to entertain the whole family this March. With a great line-up of local musicians and dance talent spread across three themed weekend, Summer Sounds 2020 will get you moving and grooving to the sounds of your favourite top 40 hits through to the smooth sounds of jazz.

There’ll be heaps to entertain the kids, including face-painting, storytelling and craft activities.


Symphony in The Park

8 March
Commonwealth Park

Sit back and relax as the Canberra Symphony Orchestra fills the air of Commonwealth Park with music. Led by the legendary George Ellis, the orchestra will bring to life Rumours – The Australian Fleetwood Mac experience. Take a picnic blanket and enjoy a bite to eat from the range of food vendors on site as you watch the sunset.


International Women’s Day: Girls Rock! Fundraiser and Movie

8 March
National Film and Sound Archive of Australia

In celebration of International Women’s Day, NSFA has linked up with Girls Rock! Canberra to host a fundraiser for their 2020 camp. Girls Rock! is an international network of independent arts and feminist social justice groups who have a focus on running band camps for girls, trans and gender non-confirming youths to give them a place to express themselves and feel safe.

The afternoon starts at 4pm and will feature a special feature of their new documentary, No Time for Quiet.


Canberra Day at Enlighten Festival

9 March
King Edward Terrace, Parkes

Celebrate Canberra’s 107th birthday! Make the most of the public holiday and start the day at the Canberra Balloon Spectacular before joining the Canberra Day festivities, featuring local musicians, street food, family friendly activities and more. Stay on to celebrate the closing night of Enlighten Illuminations and Canberra Night Noodle Markets.


Art, Not Apart

12 to 15 March
NewActon Precinct, Shine Dome, NFSA and Albert Hall.

Art, Not Apart is Canberra’s premier contemporary arts festival showcasing emerging and established artists from Canberra and beyond. It’s a weekend filled with exhibitions, performance art, loads of live music, installations, spontaneous interventions, film and projection works, delicious food and drink and wild afterparties. The theme for this year’s 10th anniversary festival is ‘Today I, Tomorrow You’.


Hit 104.7 Skyfire

14 March
Commonwealth Park

Hit 104.7 Skyfire is back to light up the skies of Lake Burley Griffin! Take a picnic blanket and tune into your radio to listen to entertainment from 6pm, and at 8:30pm, a 20-minute soundtrack set to the fireworks!

While you’re waiting, fill your stomach with meals from some of Canberra’s favourite food trucks with Skyfire EATS in Commonwealth Park.


Canberra Comedy Festival

16 to 22 March
Various venues

Running for a week, this festival is sure to bring the laughs! Canberra Comedy Festival brings some of Australia’s and the world’s funniest comedians to the nation’s capital. With the likes of Carl Barron, Joel Creasey and Dave Hughes, the CBD will be transformed into Australia’s comedy hub.


Wine Machine

21 March
Commonwealth Park

Wine Machine is a full-bodied day of wine, food and live music, showcasing Australia’s most picturesque wine regions and musicians. Joining the already announced New Zealand euphoric-alt-rockers The Naked & Famous will be Wine Machine royalty and master of ceremonies Hot Dub Time Machine, Bag Raiders,  Alice Ivy, Don West and sommelier Danny Clayton.

21 to 22 March
