Round-up the whole family and start the school holidays on cloud nine with Kite Fest

Posted on

Don’t just witness the vibrant kites decorate the Canberra sky this month, be part of it and get the family involved!

Kite Fest will be taking off at the National Arboretum just in time for the school holidays, and offers a day filled with wholesome activities that promises to entertain the entire family (yes, even your easily distracted and sporadic children!).

While the festivities won’t begin until 10 am, you could start the day by taking the kids to The Curatoreum from 9 am, where you all can take first dibs on the best kites on sale for the day. If you have kites of your own, find the best launching spot at any time between 8 am and 5:30 pm. If the family is feeling extra creative, have a go at making and decorating kites to your hearts content! The kite-making workshops will be running from 10 am until 3 pm, with five sessions available for the family to choose from and book-in prior to the day – so start making plans at the dinner table tonight before spots run out!

And while kites will be soaring from left to right, explore an array of pop-up food vendors that will offer mouth-watering options for a wholesome family picnic on the lawn. We don’t know exactly who will be there on the day, but with The Ginger Group Pop-up Café open on the Southern Deck, we do know that there will be plenty of delicious options to choose from.  And while you bask in the sunlight and the kids are feeling extra hyper, watch them dance like their life depends on it to the beats provided by BookBox2U that will play live from the Amphitheatre.

And wait, did we mention that it is free to attend Kite Fest? While booking your spot in one of the kite-making sessions comes at the affordable cost of $15 to cover the kite kit, entry is completely free – so there’s no excuse not to be there! And even better, this event welcomes patrons of all ages, however, please note that children must be five years or older to participate in the kite-making workshops.

So, what are you waiting for? Mark your calendars, book your preferred workshop session, and clear your camera roll, because you’ll be taking lots of family photos at Kite Fest.
