Sound, light and space collide in this free, immersive audiovisual experience at the NFSA

Constellations an unmissable immersive audiovisual experience in which sound, light, and space collide – is coming to the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA).

As the countdown to autumn begins, anticipation is growing for one of Canberra’s most dazzling events – the Enlighten Festival.

For those already starting to plan what they’ll be doing during Festival, make sure to earmark the unique immersive installation Constellations at the NFSA and experience it both at night and day.

Internationally recognised, Australian-based audiovisual artist Robin Fox will transform The Gallery at the NFSA into a splendour of sound and light, with sixty crystal balls suspended from the ceiling, acting as target points for white laser lights that explode and refract on impact – splitting into a colourful cornucopia of light and sound.

Constellations is designed to bypass your critical faculty, so you can experience a sense of childlike wonder. That’s the feeling I had when I first experimented with this idea and that’s the feeling I want to share,” says Robin Fox, the creator behind Constellations and other award-winning work in Berlin, London, Warsaw and Krakow.  An artist with a diverse portfolio, Fox works across live performance, exhibitions, public art, and composition for contemporary dance.

Crystallising more than 20 years of research into light and sound as art, this is a unique chance to see the work of the artist behind ICON – a large-scale, public audiovisual work commissioned for the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Sydney Opera House.

Constellations’ mind-bending intersections of light and sound will captivate audiences and leave them hovering between the worlds of the known and the unknown,” says Chris Mercer, the NFSA’s Chief Experience Officer.

“It is a thrill to welcome an artist of Robin Fox’s international acclaim to the NFSA for Enlighten: Beyond, and to extend this extraordinary audiovisual experience for audiences until May.”

Enlighten: Beyond takes the sense of excitement and discovery of the Enlighten Festival beyond its usual parameters. The program offers a chance to discover the wide range of experiences available throughout Canberra during the Festival.

And you don’t have to stay up past your bedtime to see it.

Constellations is open from 10 am to 3 pm daily, as well as 4 pm to 7 pm Thursday to Saturday during the Enlighten Festival.

And did we mention it’s free to attend?

Grab a bean bag, settle in, and immerse yourself in one of this year’s most otherworldly experiences.
