Everything you need to know about canberra. ONE DESTINATION.

How would your suburb stack up on a speed date?

Posted on

Canberra’s geographical and tribal rivalries are on display in some short but hilarious new videos by realestate.com.au.

Already gathering more than 36,000 views since they were released last week, the videos playfully highlight the excesses of our suburban stereotypes.

Would you prefer to date a guy sporting a hipster beard, lovingly massaged with almond oil, as worn by “Braddon”, or does “Charnwood’s” bushier bikie beard get your heart thumping?

Personally, our office favourite date is “GorDON”, who hails from many leagues to the south.

We also sympathise with “Gungahlin”, who sits at a table with her young kid, while her childless friend “Kingston” gets it on with “NewActon”.

Produced by local creative agency, Nation, the ads were filmed in Canberra within the dark and moody confines of Teatro Vivaldi at the ANU.

It’s a localised campaign in which realestate.com.au is pursuing the traditional dominance of Allhomes.

According to realestate.com.au’s Canberra Marketing Manager Bree Winchester, the videos are already hitting a sweet spot.

Appealing to Canberrans’ acute sense of self-parody, Bree said the videos were showing potential buyers, renters and sellers that sometimes, “a search tool can be a match made in heaven.”

“realestate.com.au is a national brand but we recognise that property is largely a local proposition. While we are Australia’s No.1 property site nationally, we’ve got our feet on the ground locally and know what makes Canberrans tick,” says Winchester.

Keep your eyes peeled for future romantic encounters with Yarralumla, NewActon, O’Connor and Barton.
