The luncheon that’s making investing in a female future oh-so-easy

Posted on

From the most successful FIFA Women’s World Cup ever to the Barbie movie dominating cinemas and Taylor Swift creating spectacular economic impact worldwide, 2023 has been all about celebrating the remarkable accomplishments of women.

And as women continue to spark and transform conversations around the world, the future is looking decidedly female – but a little closer to home, Canberra is having its own noteworthy event to salute those leading the way.

Recognising the accomplishments of women in business, leadership, and sports – all fields which are still heavily male-dominated – a special luncheon is being hosted by the Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies to celebrate their significant contributions to the community and their respective fields.

Taking place on Friday 24 November at Hotel Realm, the Women in Business, Leadership, and Sport Luncheon will not only be a fabulous opportunity to celebrate some remarkable women, but according to Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies Head Coach Scott Fava it also allows attendees to invest in a female future by supporting female rugby programs in Canberra.

“This lunch provides a platform for raising awareness and financial support for female athletes, to help invest in their training, facilities, and development,” he says. “This is crucial for the ACT Brumbies Super W program,”

“Additionally, it fosters a sense of community and solidarity around women’s sports, showcasing their talent and inspiring the next generation of female athletes.”

Gathering influential leaders, sports enthusiasts, and advocates for gender equality together in one room to enjoy a beautiful three-course meal and enriching conversations (including a panel MC’d by Grace Gill – a former soccer player turned commentator – and made of past and present Wallaroo players as well as keynote speaker), the luncheon will see renowned women share their journeys, challenges, and triumphs.

Hoping to inspire the next generation of female leaders – and by providing an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals – the Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies believes that this luncheon is a step forward when it comes to advancing gender equality and empowering women in every sphere.

“I have been involved in the game [rugby] since I was 11 years old – I always aspired to be a Wallaby. My passion now revolves around seeing female rugby programs becoming high-performing environments that will lead to female rugby players ‘living the professional rugby dream’ like I did for the Brumbies and Wallabies,” says Scott.

“I hope to inspire my daughters to chase their dreams and to raise awareness that female sport could provide sustainable career opportunities – now and in the future.”

Acting as a fundraiser to support female rugby programs in Canberra and to foster the growth and development of female athletes, the ultimate mission of the Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies is to provide equal opportunities for women and girls to participate and excel in this traditionally male-dominated sport.

With various fundraising activities on the day – including auctions, raffles, and donation opportunities – all proceeds raised will directly benefit female rugby programs, which Scott says slowly growing each year.

“The evolution of female rugby programs is exceptionally thrilling,” says Scott.

“There is much excitement surrounding our 14’s and 16’s age groups, which appear to be paving the way for this promising future.”

The future is looking female in Canberra – you just need to invest in it.
