This riverside ABBA concert in Queanbeyan will have you saying ‘thank you for the music’

Posted on

Calling all Dancing Queens, at this ABBA-themed concert you can dance, you can jive and you’ll ABBA-solutely have the time of your life.

Okay – that might have been the MOST cringey sentence ever written, but you get the point.

Taking place on Saturday 3 February, Music by the River is back for its eighth run and this year the theme is all things ABBA. Brought to life by the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council, Icon Water, and the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Australia’s number one ABBA tribute band – BABBA – will be taking the stage to take you on a musical journey through some of the biggest musical hits of the 70s.

From Mama Mia to Waterloo, you’ll feel the beat from the tambourine from 7 pm.

“This year make sure to pack your dancing shoes and meet us on the banks of the Queanbeyan River for a night of good food and great music,” says Queanbeyan-Palerang Mayor Kenrick Winchester.

“Bring a picnic or just yourself and enjoy gelato, pizza, Portuguese chicken, beer, bubbly and more from a range of stallholders.”

Worried about money, money, money? This might be a rich man’s world, but General Admission on both sides of the river is free – all you need to do is register through Eventbrite. So, gather your honey, honeys because a free ABBA-themed concert is not to be missed.

With the afternoon kicking off at 4 pm there will also be entertainment from local musicians (including Woodface and Phoenix 5), and seating will be open on a first-in basis – but if you do decide to book allocated seating, you will need to bring your ticket with you on the night, either printed or electronically.

It’s also worth knowing that only concrete seating will be sold and allocated this year so you might want to bring along a cushion to sit on – you’ll want to leave this concert feeling like a number one, and no one can do that with a sore back (and butt).

Perfect for the whole family, head along and say ‘thank you’ to a show that promises to be full of humour, killer 70s costumes, Swedish accents, good music, and plenty of opportunities to dance like you’re young, sweet, and only 17.

ABBA a great day and don’t miss out.
