Minister for Sport and Recreation, Shane Rattenbury, has invited Canberrans to cast their vote on their favourite design for a new water play park at Lakeside Leisure Centre (LLC) in Tuggeranong.
“The LLC is a well-loved community facility in Canberra’s south that is a regular recreation spot for many families,” said Mr Rattenbury.
“Over the winter months the facility will be undergoing a number of upgrades and improvements and, as part of that, I would like to invite the community to vote for their favourite design for the new water play park.
“Canberrans are invited to select their favourite design from the three options available and cast their vote in person at LLC or via the Sport and Recreation Services (SRS) website.
“Construction will commence on the new water play park during the temporary closure of LLC in July and August with works anticipated to be completed in time for the start of the 2015-16 summer season on 1 November.
“Our aquatic facilities do require maintenance and upgrades which results in pool closures from time to time, but I am sure that when patrons return to the pool in September, and then again at the start of the summer season, they will be pleased with the improvements to LLC,” said Mr Rattenbury.
The LLC, including the gymnasium, will be closed for all of July and August to enable necessary repair and maintenance to occur, including health and safety upgrades.
The substantive refurbishment works include retiling of the pool concourse and renovating the change rooms.
The works have been scheduled for July and August during the low season of aquatic facility use and to reduce disruption to pool users.
All LLC memberships will be frozen for the period of the closure.
You can view the three designs for the new water park at www.sport.act.gov.au or by visiting LLC. Voting will close on 28 May 2015.
