Enlighten Illuminations

See the Parliamentary Triangle come to life after dark.

Witness thought-provoking and moving large-scale projections on Australian Parliament House, the National Portrait Gallery, the National Library of Australia, the Museum of Australian Democracy, the National Gallery of Australia and Questacon.

To kick start the Enlighten Festival in 2019, the Illuminations have been extended to 11 nights to provide the perfect backdrop for your Canberra Day celebrations. Canberra’s Parliamentary Triangle and satellite venues will be transformed into vibrant arts precincts, showcasing Australian talent, amazing roving artists, live bands and enchanting performances. Plus, enjoy late night openings at many iconic national attractions.

Canberra Night Noodle Markets

Allow the Night Noodle Markets to tickle your tastebuds as a part of the Enlighten Festival this March.

On offer will be a range of insta-worthy dishes and drinks to try such as Hoy Pinoy, Chur Burger, Churken, Shallot Thai, Mr Bao, What the Pho and Many More! Bring the whole family down and mingle with the crowd of Canberra foodies.

The ShowRoom

Haig Park Pickture Festival

1 ticket. 3 screens. Pick your movie.

From Friday 1 to Sunday 3 March, your favourite movies come to Haig Park in Braddon with a unique outdoor social cinema.

Enjoy dinner, drinks and music in the park until the sun sets and the movies begin. Three cinemas will light up the trees simultaneously. Put on your headphones, grab some popcorn and pick your movie.

33 Revolutions: Be part of something big!

 

MoAD yet again offers a unique Enlighten experience with 33 Revolutions – a collaborative artwork inspired by the transformative power of music.

Join us to build an inspiring creation from recycled vinyl records, hanging from a height above King’s Hall at Old Parliament House.

Watch the insta-worthy artwork grow, as this breath-taking installation comes to life with the spirit of revolution.

Be part of something big, connecting thousands of voices from different generations, cultures and identities as you are entertained by a rocking soundtrack including Joan Baez, Kendrick Lamar, Paul Kelly, John Williamson and everything in between.

Happening 1, 2, 8 and 9 March at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House.

French Afterwork at the Alliance Française of Canberra

This week, as always, you rocked! Work, kids, family, responsibilities…you handled it all like a queen. What about you treat yourself now? How about you take some time for you to learn a new language while sipping good wine and meeting new friends?

The Alliance Française of Canberra presents you its French Afterwork! Come learn French in a relaxed atmosphere, with a glass of wine or a beer. Open to all levels

GIANTS Netball vs Canberra GIANTS

Come and watch the Deakin University ANL Canberra GIANTS take on their ‘big sisters’, Suncorp Super Netball GIANTS team in a friendly pre-season game at 4:45 pm today, Friday 1 March. The game will take place on Court 5 – Frank Stewart Halls, AIS, Leverrier Street, Bruce.

All tickets are General Admission, with no reserved seating. Tickets are $5 each (+ booking fee).

Doors open at 4.45pm, with the game to commence at 5.00pm.

Bauhaus Ourhaus Festival

PhotoAccess is super excited to be hosting the Bauhaus Ourhaus festival!

This one-day pop-up festival celebrates 35 years since PhotoAccess was established and 100 years since the founding of the Bauhaus as an innovative and creative arts community.

On Saturday 2 March, from 4-10 pm, PhotoAccess and the Manuka Arts Centre will come alive with artists, performers and visitors coming together to create, share and enjoy photo-media based works that express the Bauhaus’ spirit of experimentation, collaboration and play.

The Bauhaus Ourhaus festival is a family-friendly ticketed event, $10 early bird or $15 at the door, there will be food and beverage stalls and live music. Kids 16 and under are FREE. Tickets can be purchased online atwww.photoaccess.org.au

CELLAR DOOR

Cellar Door is a wine market for Canberra’s wonderful wine scene happening every Saturday from 3-6 pm. Buy wines from local makers every Saturday afternoon in the iconic Nishi Grand Stair, NewActon Precinct.

Grab a souvenir glass, taste the latest drops, and buy at cellar door prices.

Wine stalls rotate each week with complementing stalls like flowers, cheese, chocolate and books.

Make a day of it with a film at Palace Electric Cinema and NewActon’s leading food and drink destinations.

Live out your gin garden dreams and soak up the last ray’s of summer at Monster Kitchen and Bar’s pop-up gin garden every Saturday.

Whether you’re after a cheeky G&T or one of Monster’s exclusive gin cocktails we have it all with an ever-rotating list of gin’s, on-trend Fever Tree varieties, Jenga and other fun games there will be something new to discover each week.

Lightbulb Improv: Beginnings & Ending

Canberra’s premiere improvised theatre troupe, gives you a fresh take on comedy at Smith’s Alternative. Watch Lightbulb Improv create a comedy variety show right before your eyes with comedy scenes, serious scenes and even a few songs. This month they’ll explore the fun, the heartbreak, and the unknown of beginnings and endings in our lives.

Cast includes: Amy Crawford,  Angela Ford, David Woodgate, Helen Way, Katherine Berry, Luke Atchison, Lou Maconachie, Jeremy Strasser and Michael Carter.

The Big Canberra Bike Ride

The Big Canberra Bike Ride is Canberra’s annual celebration of cycling, happening from 6am to 3pm this Sunday 3 March from Rond Terrace.

Around 1000 people are expected to participate in rides for all ages and abilities, starting with the 5 km Big Family Ride which is free for children under 18 and takes place entirely on closed roads.

Experience the atmosphere of riding down Parkes Way without traffic with hundreds of other riders – serenaded by West African drummers as you reach the Acton Tunnel. Join us for the celebrations at our event hub with free family entertainment including jumping castle, face painting and live music from Canberra singer-songwriter Matt Dent.

Bring your family, bring your friends, and get riding!

The Big Canberra Bike Ride is brought to you by Pedal Power ACT in support of cycle safety and the Amy Gillett Foundation.

Luminous Botanicus

For four nights the Enlighten Festival is visiting the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Take a stroll through the rainforest canopy and walk to the red centre gardens to see the wonders of nature and science. Keep an eye out for light projections on the trees and sleepy koalas up above. The Gardens will donate $1 from each ticket sold to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital for conservation and research.

Happening March 1, 2, 8 and 9 at the Australian National Botanic Gardens, Clunies Ross Street Acton. Event begins at 7:30pm.
