Your bumper guide to Live at Lanyon 2025
Posted on
It’s time to start planning for the biggest concert of the year.
Canberra’s beloved outdoor concert Live at Lanyon is back for 2025, and as the countdown begins, you might be wondering what you can expect.
Featuring a bumper program of jazz, soul and pop classics – all taking place on the historic grounds of the Lanyon Homestead – we’ve pulled together all the information you need to plan the perfect day out.
From what you can expect to what the wet weather plan is, here’s your bumper guide to Live at Lanyon 2025.
What is it?
An annual outdoor concert held at the Lanyon Homestead every year, Live at Lanyon features the amazing Canberra Symphony Orchestra, combining live music with the stunning natural beauty of the heritage site.
Located on the Murrumbidgee River, it’s a family-friendly event designed for music lovers of all ages. It promises to be a fun afternoon filled with jazz, soul and the timeless classics you know and love.
When is it?
Taking place on Saturday 18 October, gates open for the afternoon event at 3.30 pm with the program beginning at 4.30 pm. Finishing at around 6 pm, you’ll still have a whole evening ahead of you to either head home or head out and continue the fun.
What’s happening?
Music lovers won’t be disappointed with the 2025 program. Featuring the Canberra Symphony Orchestra Ensemble, this year, powerhouse vocalist Kirrah Amosa will be joining them onstage alongside a rhythm section and string quartet.
From touring with the original cast of Hamilton Australia, to supporting artists such as Rita Ora, Adam Lambert, James Arthur and Jess Glynne, Kirrah is known for performing R&B, pop, jazz, classics and everything in between.
Playing two vibrant sets – flowing from smooth ballads to dance-worthy hits – you’ll hear a blend of love songs, jazz standards and contemporary favourites from Adele, Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Taylor Swift to legends like Duke Ellington, Etta James and Nat King Cole.
What can I eat and drink?
Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Brindabella Ranges, you can bring your own picnic to Live at Lanyon, or you’re welcome to pre-order a grazing box and T’Gallant Sparkling Prosecco NV to enjoy on the day. Including artisan crackers, cheddar cheese, brie cheese, blue cheese, stuffed peppers, baby pickles, olives, and dried and fresh fruit (with a gluten-free option also available), it’s the perfect addition to the afternoon.
Drinks will also be available for purchase at the bar – it’s worth noting that you can’t bring your own alcohol – and you can bring your own non-alcoholic options to enjoy. You’re also welcome to bring picnic blankets and camping chairs! Just make sure you have a plan to take all of your rubbish home to help maintain the heritage gardens, paths and homestead.
What if it rains?
Good question. You’re welcome to bring raincoats and ponchos for light rain but no umbrellas will be permitted to ensure the safety and viewing experience of all audience members. In the event of severe weather, the event will be cancelled, and refunds will be provided for paid ticketed programs.
With that said, it’s recommended to double-check the forecast on the day to ensure you’re wearing weather-appropriate clothing – including a hat and sunscreen. There will be limited shade, so it’s better to be sun safe than sorry!
What else do I need to know?
All ages are welcome to Live at Lanyon, but children must be supervised by their parents and carers. With the Murrumbidgee River so close by – along with paddocks, livestock and wildlife – it’s for their own safety while they enjoy the music. For those attending with family members who have mobility issues, it’s also worth noting that the concert area is slightly sloped and has uneven ground surfaces.
Planning on driving? There is free car parking available on site, and attendees with low mobility can ride in the people-mover from the carpark to the Homestead and Cafe. For those thinking about catching public transport, there are no direct services to Lanyon Homestead. Instead, public buses go to Lanyon Marketplace in Calwell, and from there you can catch a taxi or Uber to the venue.
No pets – with the exception of special service dogs – are permitted on site, and there is limited mobile reception, so make sure to arrange meeting spots before you get there!
And most importantly…have fun!
