Your essential guide to the 2026 FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow and Night Markets
Posted on
No plans for the January long weekend? Think again. The FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow and Night Markets are back for another year.
Promising to be bigger, brighter and bolder than ever before, FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow will once again be soaring back into Canberra for three nights, transforming the sky with an unforgettable light show.
Celebrating community, culture and connection, we’ve broken down everything you need to know about the jam-packed weekend – including what you can expect.
Whether you’re witnessing FLIGHT for the first time or returning for more, prepare to be amazed.
What is it?
Have no idea what we’re talking about? Featuring hundreds of drones working in perfect synchronisation to an epic soundtrack, FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow will transform the sky into a canvas of lights that tell spellbinding stories across two different 15-minute shows each night.
Starting from 9 pm, our advice is to get there early and plan to stay for the entire performance.
When is it happening?

Mark Saturday 24, Sunday 25 and Monday 26 January in your calendar. With the night markets kicking off at 5 pm and running until 10.30 pm and the drone show taking flight at 9 pm and 10 pm each night, you’ll want to plan ahead.
Wait, what do you mean by ‘two drone shows’?
Good question! And the answer is exactly that. Brought to life by internationally acclaimed event producers AGB Creative, at 9 pm and 10 pm you can look to the skies for two different breathtaking light displays, illuminating effects, cutting edge drone choreography, immersive music, and storytelling.
Each performance is unique and is designed to reflect, respect, and celebrate the evolving story of our nation, pushing the boundaries of entertainment.
Where can I watch the show?
Across the weekend, there will be two event hubs for FLIGHT 2026: one in Commonwealth Place and one in Kings Park. If you’d rather avoid the crowds, the show will also be visible from other locations around the centre of Lake Burley Griffin. It is worth noting that your location will alter your perspective of the Drone SkyShow. This means some elements may appear differently than if you were at Commonwealth Place, so keep that in mind when planning where you’d like to go.

What else can I expect?
We mentioned the night markets, right?
Along with the two 15-minute shows, the event this year will also feature markets with food, drinks, and artisan stalls. Make sure to take some extra money along because there will be plenty of chances to shop, eat and drink before the first show takes flight. Keep an eye out as stallholders are announced!
How much does it cost to attend?
Hold onto your hats, because this entire event is free to attend! And the best part is its family friendly.
How can I get there?

Drive, scoot, walk or ride: there are plenty of ways to get to FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow. For those driving, the Questacon Car Park will be open for patrons with accessible parking needs only (meaning you must display a valid Australian disability parking permit). For more information on where to park, visit the National Capital Authority website.
If you didn’t know already, Commonwealth Place is a no-ride zone, so you won’t be able to scooter directly into the event. But don’t worry – there will be designated e-scooter parking on either side of the event area.
Large crowds are anticipated so it is recommended that you plan ahead to avoid travel delays. The National Capital Authority will be posting updates as they count down to the weekend (including any wet weather plans) so sign up here to stay updated with the event details and transport arrangements.
What else do I need to know?
That’s it! Simply rock up on your chosen night (or all three) and enjoy. Promising to be an unforgettable evening of light, music, and magic under the stars of Lake Burley Griffin, it truly will be an evening of entertainment taken to new heights.
