Your guide to SkyFire 2025

The annual firework display returns in 2025 – be prepared to be starstruck as the skies of Canberra light up!
To help you make the most of the night, we’ve broken down everything you need to know about SkyFire, from when it’s on to what you can get to eat.
What is it?
Established in 1989, Lake Burley Griffin has been home to this spectacular event that has been engrained into the culture of Canberrans for the last 30 years. For one night only, the skies above the capital will be lit up by a mesmerising array of displays, including a RAAF Fast Jet Handling Display by a F35 lightning Fighter Jet combined with a staggering 40,000 pyrotechnic effects, 25,000 shooting comets, and 2,500 shells. The best part? All of it will be synchronised to a soundtrack created by your favourite radio friends from Hit 104.7 and Mix 106.3.
When is it happening?
Presented by Hit 104.7 and Mix 106.3, what we consider one of the best free events of the year will be returning on Saturday 15 March, starting at 8.30 pm and running for 20 minutes.
The radio stations make this once-a-year event possible through partnering with 10 local Canberra businesses via the Major Event fund and the National Capital Authority. The local businesses helping make this night possible are Club Lime, Canberra Airport, Blumers Personal Injury Lawyers, Canberra Outlet Centre, Zango, Rivoland Tiles, YLess4U, Harvey Norman, Alexander Watson Insulation, National Capital Motors, and the ACT Government.
What’s on?
In addition to an already spectacular firework display, there will also be a large selection of food trucks, the Southside Markets, and two entertainment hubs featuring a live radio broadcast and big screens placed around the lake to ensure everyone gets a view of the show. However, it is encouraged to bring a portable radio so you can hear the soundtrack loud and clear from wherever you may be seated on the night.
What can I eat?
Unfortunately, the food isn’t free but it’s worth your money. With an abundance of different cuisines, there will be something for everyone. Regatta Point has a broad range to choose from like Grease Monkey, The Meat Wizard, Canan Turkish Gozleme, and Yummy Time Dumpling. Rond Terrance has Bells Amusements, Delish Azz, and Safari Delight, while Kings Park features options including Cedar Husk Café, Mad Mack’s Gril,l and SL Karaitiana.
The local Village Markets is another added bonus that will be featured at the event, with two market hubs that have non-alcoholic drinks and retail stalls for you to enjoy and explore from 5 pm to 8.30 pm. Make sure to check out the website to see the extensive range of other food options available to fill your tummy!
How can I get there?
Not only is the event free but all public transport is free! That’s right, all Transport Canberra buses and the light rail will be free of charge.
Additional shuttle buses will be coordinated to transport people from the City and Woden interchanges. If you want to take the Skyfire experience to the next level, The Novotel Canberra is a short two kilometres from the firework display, and there will be a shuttle bus available from within 200 meters of the Novotel that takes you straight to Lake Burley Griffin.
