Sweet Dreams are made of this: Canberra is getting a new music festival

Posted on

A brand-new music festival is set to light up Canberra this September.

Taking place just 15 minutes from the city centre at The Truffle Farm in Majura, Sweet Dreams Festival will create a neon playground for attendees, with a huge line up of musical talent from Canberra and beyond.

Created by locals Rohan Thomas and Marty Khoundavong, the festival will take place on Saturday 21 September and will feature Canberran artists Citizen Kay, Kirklandd (pictured above) and Kirrah Amosa alongside internationally-touring artists MYRNE, Throttle and Luke Million.

Festival co-organiser Rohan Thomas says that Sweet Dreams aims to showcase a new spin on the traditional music festival format.

“We wanted to create a festival that isn’t just about the music you’re hearing – it’s also a visual experience, like stepping into a completely different world,” he explains.

“The theme will incorporate unique concepts, from food–particularly desserts and beverages–to the look, feel and entertainment. The festival is dreamland themed, bringing an element of all things surreal to life.”

Co-organiser Marty Khoundavong explains that the festival music will be based on a contrast of day and night, so as to take guests on a journey across the duration of the festival.

“You’ll get a completely different experience during the day to what you will at night,” says Marty. “The day starts with RnB and Hip Hop and then, as it gets darker, the electric vibes will pick up as the producers/DJs take us into the night and the neon lights really start to pop.”

“With the addition of international and national artists, there will be greater exposure and we hope to create an environment where people of all interests can connect, not only with each other, but with local musicians, artists and businesses.”

To keep guests dancing (and to keep the spotlight on all things local), Rohan and Marty explain that all food and drink vendors will be locally owned and include Fyshwick’s Capital Brewing Co and bubble shot vendors Sabi Beverages for a start.
