10 soup-er places to find the perfect winter soup

Posted on

Who doesn’t long for a soul-soothing soup on those icy winter days? (Or even the wet, windy autumn ones we’ve been enduring?)

From a classic pumpkin to a drool-worthy combination of sausage and vegetables, finding the perfect soup can sometimes be a bit of a challenge. So to make your life easier, we’ve found 10 soup-er (sorry) places that are home to hearty and healthy winter soups.

While a lot of these cafés and restaurants are kind enough to make these beautiful broths when the weather gets chilly, that doesn’t mean they will be available every day. So, keep an eye out on their social media, pop in every so often, and remember, if there’s no soup, there’s sure to be something else on the menu to warm you up.

The Usual (Gungahlin)

Did someone say potato and truffle soup? The Usual in Gungahlin is anything but usual with their delicious weekly specials. With pumpkin soup and the aforementioned truffle soup already making the cut, we’re excited to see what’s next. Check out their Instagram page on Sundays for their specials update.

Stella’s by the lake (Belconnen)

Serving hearty and health-conscious food with great coffee, did you know Stella’s by the lake usually has daily soup specials throughout winter? Served with a side of toasted sourdough, it’s the perfect way to warm up after a walk around Lake Ginninderra. Pop in or keep an eye on their social media to see when the winter warmer will grace their menu again!

The Knox Made in Watson (Watson)

A local hub for locals to relax and enjoy good food, the staff at the Knox are passionate about local produce. Luckily that means when the weather gets cold, soups can often be found on their specials board (think chicken and corn broth served with house-made garlic baguette and Thai pumpkin with coconut cream and chilli oil!). Keep an eye on their social media to see if there’s a soup-tactular comeback for our favourite winter meal.

Shop 1/13 Watson Place, Watson / theknox.com.au / Open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 7 am – 4 pm, Tuesday and Friday 7 am – 8:30 pm, Saturday 7:30 am – 8:30 pm and Sunday 7:30 am – 3 pm

A new Chinese fusion restaurant located in Dickson, No9 Palace is the perfect place to go if you’re craving a soup packed with flavor. Their ‘Buddha jumps over the wall’ soup (so named because when the dish was being prepared the smell was so good Buddhist monks jumped over the wall to see what it was), is cooked for two days with abalone, prawns, sea cucumber, king oyster mushrooms, quail eggs, and shiitake mushrooms to extract the flavor of the ingredients. Yum.

13 Woolley Street, Dickson / no9palace.com.au / Open Tuesday to Sunday, 12 pm – 2:30 pm and 5 pm – 9 pm. Closed Monday.

Sweet Bones Bakery and Café (City)

Last year saw a pumpkin, lentil, and coconut cream with a woody, toasted Chardy. While they have yet to announce any autumn/winter specials, do we need to give you another excuse to check it out?
