A simple and guilt free almond pistachio cake topped with macerated lavender strawberries. It’s gluten…
After spending most of her working life in the public service, Sophia Carlini has taken the leap and followed a long time dream of opening her own coffee shop.
Located in the well-known Bailey’s Arcade in the city, 3 Degrees Coffee became a reality for Sophia in February 2016.
A tiny space lined with white subway tiles and splashes of aqua blue, you can’t help but be drawn in by this little hole in the wall. The cake cabinet that is full of homemade sweets also stops you in your tracks as you walk past.
“Baking has been a passion of mine for years and after taking leave from the public service, I am finally getting to fulfill my baking dreams, “ says Sophia. “I’ve learnt a lot of what I know on YouTube and I’m constantly thinking up new recipes”.
Sophia says the cinnamon scrolls and the salted caramel slice are proving to be the most popular on the sweets menu. “Although the finger slices that are only $1, are really popular with morning coffees.”
A Sydney-based coffee – Gabriel Coffee – is the coffee of choice. This beautifully balanced coffee pours perfectly with Canberra Milk.
But it’s not all about sweets and coffee. As of February 2017, they’ve introduced a full sit down menu complete with table and chairs so patrons can stay a while.
How about egg and bacon rolls, vegetable frittatas and hot dogs? In fact, Thursday is hot dog night! 3 Degrees opens from 10pm – 3am to serve up American style hot dogs that start at $5. You can choose from a standard hot dog or indulge and top it up with things like bacon and cheese.
This gorgeous little hole in the wall may be small in size but it is big in character. “The space has had its challenges. It’s small and we are limited with what we can offer but we are loving the engagement with the community so far and love building up our clientele,” says Sophia.
3 Degrees could quite easily become a place to call your ‘regular’ with the personal service Sophia provides and a focus on good, homemade food and beautiful coffee. It’s the perfect place to start your working day.
