Go West(on)! Andre’s Osteria opens in Weston Creek tomorrow

Posted on

Highly anticipated Mediterranean dining room and wine bar, Andre’s Osteria, opens its doors in Weston Creek tomorrow, Friday, 7 March.

Occupying the space formerly home to the iconic My’s Vietnamese, the venue has undergone a substantial transformation, blending rustic charm with a refined Mediterranean-inspired menu that evokes both flavour and fun.

The brainchild of hospitality young-gun Andre Wilks – who has already spent over a decade managing some of the city’s most beloved eateries – Andre’s Osteria is the realisation of a long-held dream for the 29 year-old, who says he has always known he would one day open his own restaurant. When the space formerly occupied by My’s became available just around the corner from his home, it felt like the perfect opportunity.

The interior provides a warm, welcoming atmosphere designed to shine during Canberra’s cooler months, featuring stunning olive-green tiles and wooden accents, inspired by olive groves across Europe.

Working alongside his father, Bruce, who brings a military background and a sharp attention to detail, the pair have created a small but mighty eatery set to become a true neighbourhood gem—perfect for everything from intimate dinners to relaxed gatherings. It’s everything an Osteria should be.

The menu is inspired by the Mediterranean and focused on quality, seasonal, and locally sourced produce. A key feature is the delicious handmade pasta to create standout dishes like Mafaldine paired with a rich Cowra lamb shoulder ragu and Wagyu Beef Lasagne with bechamel.

Other highlights include fresh Oysters, shucked daily in house, Carbonara Arancini, topped with crispy guanciale, Stracciatella with charred leeks, heirloom beetroots, and local honey, and the 400g Bone-in Rib Eye, served with mashed potato, cherry tomatoes, and Salsa verde.

For dessert, guests can enjoy Andre’s Mum’s Chocolate Mousse, a heartfelt tribute to his late mother, Pierrelaine, featuring caramelised white chocolate and fresh raspberries.

The homage to his mother, who sadly passed in 2023, goes far beyond the dessert menu. Credited with instilling a deep love of food in Andre, her portrait now hangs at the entrance, welcoming guests as they enjoy Andre’s hard work and her iconic chocolate mousse.

“This is a place for the community to come together and enjoy simple, beautiful food,” said Andre.

“It’s a tribute to my mother, and I’m excited to share it with our neighbourhood. The menu will change seasonally, based on the best produce available, including the herbs and leafy greens grown in my Dad’s vegetable garden.”

“I can’t wait to experiment further with flavours and bring my crazy ideas to life—old dishes served in new and exciting ways. This is only the beginning, and I hope guests can feel how much love and passion has been—and will continue to be—poured into the project,” Wilks added.

Andre’s fervour for food extends to the restaurant’s beverage menu, which features a selection of unique wines and beers. These include locals like Linear’s Gruner Veltliner and Lark Hill’s Riesling, alongside hard-to-find drops like Agioritiko, Malbec, Nero d’Avola. Beer lovers can enjoy the Italian classic Birra Moretti or the exclusive Andre’s x Bridgeroad Mediterranean Ale brew, both available on tap.
