Find your autumn indulgence in the Snowy Mountains

Posted on

Lake Crackenback, nestled in a valley between Jindabyne and the Thredbo snowfields, is a well-travelled winter destination for Canberrans.

But an upcoming festival proves that the area has plenty to offer during the warmer months too.

Savour Snowy Mountains will kick off its second annual weekend of indulgence this Friday 22 March with a packed calendar of events across three days at the Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa.

Cuisine, the resort’s waterfront restaurant and bar.

Anthony Cleary, General Manager of the resort, explains that while the resort operates a number of events throughout summer, a food and wine-focused event was always on their wish list.

“We’ve been very specific about featuring and highlighting local producers, talent and services,” he says.

With master classes on everything from native foraging to cheese and wine pairing to pickling, as well as a gin masterclass (where do we sign up?) you won’t just come out of the weekend with fond culinary memories, you’ll gain skills and a deeper understanding of the Snowy’s most delicious produce.

Of course, a very special highlight will be the Riesling Feast dinner on Friday night with guest chef Daniel Perryman of Canberra’s own Pialligo Estate. A four-course long table dinner, Daniel’s signature farm-to-table fine dining will be paired with the most delicious of drops from Shut the Gate wines.

On Sunday, end your getaway on a high note as you enjoy the Lakeside Long Brunch on the water’s edge with ingredients sourced from the local region.

And if you want easy access to all these choice foodie experiences, there’s a range of accommodation from apartments to exclusive chalets on offer at the mountain resort.

“Lake Crackenback is a beautiful part of the world in the high country of the Snowy Mountains – it’s so diverse,” says Anthony. “We have one, two and three-bedroom lakeside apartments and up to four-bedroom luxury chalets overlooking the mountains and the valley.”

Anthony encourages people interested in staying at the resort during the festival to check the website for packages and details of accommodation.

“It’s a really special time [at Crackenback] in autumn with beautiful clear sunny days and cool evenings. Savour Snowy Mountains is just a great opportunity to enjoy.”
