Breaking news! Little Sutton Bakehouse heads to Deakin locale
Posted on
After turning a country bakery into one of Canberra’s favourite gathering places on the outskirts of the city, Little Sutton Bakehouse is opening a second location in Deakin.
It’s happy days for all Canberrans who can get their fill of handcrafted artisan sourdough and buttery croissants without having to hit the open road, and even sweeter news for inner-south carb lovers mourning the loss of Locale Pizzeria.
From early September, Little Sutton Deakin will take over the cute corner site and, once the weather warms up, will host the bakery’s much loved sourdough pizza nights.

Imagine taking your fill of Little Sutton’s signature sourdough, gourmet pies, baked goods and country style cakes during the day and then setting your hungry sights on fresh-fired pizza during the sorts of community-focused evenings that have become a favourite in Sutton. It will be the best of both worlds.

Owners Omar Muscat and Daniel Sparrow believe the expansion isn’t about opening just another bakery, but about allowing the juggernaut that is Little Sutton Bakehouse to expand and bring new life to a well-established suburb.
The pair have been delighted with the popularity of the country-style bakehouse, which has become a destination in its own right, attracting visitors from across Canberra and beyond.
The heart of Little Sutton Bakehouse will remain firmly in Sutton, where every day baked goods will be delivered fresh to Deakin daily (Dough on the Daily). In store, their house-made olive oil focaccia will become the foundation of a range of fresh gourmet sandwiches, showcasing seasonal produce and quality ingredients.

Omar, a familiar face at his other iconic café Doubleshot (conveniently located next door), said the neighbourhood would thrive.
“We’ve always believed hospitality is about bringing people together,” Muscat said. “Little Sutton Deakin will complement what Doubleshot Deakin already does so well, adding artisan baking, fresh sourdough, handcrafted focaccias and pastries to the precinct.”
“Together, we want to create a place where people can grab their morning coffee, meet friends for lunch, pick up fresh bread on the way home, or simply spend time together.”
“The Deakin Shops have always been a place for the community to connect. We see Little Sutton Deakin as building on that, creating a hospitality hub where great food, great coffee and genuine connection come together.”

And for those who take butter just as seriously as bread, Little Sutton Deakin is also proud to continue its partnership with Pepe Saya, whose premium cultured butter has long been a key ingredient in the bakehouse’s pastries and baked goods. The Deakin store will also stock a curated range of Pepe Saya’s take-home favourites, including cultured butter, milk and lemon curd, giving customers the opportunity to enjoy the same premium ingredients used throughout the bakehouse.
Little Sutton Deakin is expected to open in early September, and updates on the opening will be shared via Little Sutton Bakehouse’s Instagram.
