Capital Food Market will open in Belconnen this week – just in time for festive feasting

You might have known the sprawling site as the Belconnen Fresh Food Markets, but now it’s new look, new name.
Meet the Capital Food Market, a refreshed and revitalised precinct that will bring market-focused shopping back to Canberra’s inner west.
Opening the doors this Wednesday 13 December, the Capital Food Market’s airy layout takes inspiration from Europe’s century-old food markets across three hectares, with 40 traders to eventually call the market home.
While the revitalised space will be a fresh take on fresh food, the Belconnen Fresh Food Market’s original traders are at the ‘heart’ of Capital Food Market, with Tom’s Superfruits, Sea Harvest, Markets Meats, Knead Patisserie, Natural Living, Deli Cravings, Chicken Coop, and Book Passion all reopening in new spaces.
Naturally, there will be new faces and new eats too, including Florence Gelato, Three Mills Bakery, Gormans Florist, Asian Savoury and Sweet Business Healthy Living.

Opening celebrations will be happening from Wednesday 13 December to Sunday 17 December from 10 am to 2 pm daily with live entertainment, cooking demonstrations by Luciano from My Kitchen Rules, and kids’ face painting.
Customers will also receive their choice of a picnic set or charcuterie serving board after they spend $50 across multiple transactions. Check on-site for more information.

“We recognise and pay tribute to Belconnen Markets’ history as a cornerstone of this community for over 40 years,” explains Michael Baliva, Co-Head of Real Estate for Elanor Investors Group.
“The new Capital Food Market will carry on this legacy for many decades to come, provide a unique food offering for Canberra’s residents and visitors to explore and enjoy all year round.”
