Chocolate, vodka and coffee? The perfect truffle is here for World Chocolate Day

Posted on

Chocolate lovers your second favourite day of the year has arrived (I’m going to have to give Easter the top spot).

That’s right World Chocolate Day is here, so make sure your cupboard is choc-full of goodies to get you through the day.

One place to go cocoa-nuts over some handmade delights is Yasmin Coe’s Murrumbateman Chocolate Co, home to both Robyn Rowe Chocolates and Sweet Pea & Poppy, they will have all your chocolate cravings sorted.

From rocky roads (featuring local Australian ingredients) to truffles using Canberran liquors, Yasmin puts a creative spin on local ingredients.

“We believe in the use of good quality ingredients and that if you use good ingredients and pair them well, they speak for themselves. So, for us, that’s about the quality of the chocolate first and foremost. Most of our products are a labour of love. Some of them are a three-day process to make just one chocolate. So, there’s a lot of work that goes into each creation,” explains Yasmin.

“Sometimes, you know, it’s a happy little accident where we come up with the best flavour combination. But for the most part, it’s very much starting with the ingredients that excite us and then figuring out how we make it best work together in a chocolate creation.”

The most recent flavours to tickle the taste buds of this chocolate mastermind are from two local Canberra businesses and it is Yasmin’s pick for what you should be munching on this World Chocolate Day.

“Our brand-new chocolate is an espresso martini truffle. It is a local collaboration where we’ve used Cosmo X coffee beans and Underground Spirits vodka. It’s quickly become our most popular product, we’re up to our third batch already,” explains Yasmin.

Want to see where the magic happens? Jump in your car to the picturesque café (and the chocolate factory) just 20 minutes outside of Canberra to sample some melt-in-your-mouth magic for yourself and grab a hot drink to fight off the winter chill.

“One thing that we’re really excited about this winter is that we’re doing a chai hot chocolate. We launched that two weeks ago and it’s been proving really popular with our weekend visitors and it’s definitely one that’s here to stay,” explains Yasmin.

It’s an argument that everyone has had at least once but Yasmin settled the age-old debate of fridge versus pantry for us.

“In the pantry, always the pantry, the only reason you put it in the fridge is if it’s a very hot day. Even so, you don’t want to keep it in the fridge any longer than you have to, chocolate is best served at room temperature,” says Yasmin.

Make the most of your perfect excuse to have dessert for dinner—and you can bet I’ll be treating myself to the cocktail collection tonight.
