Canberra: get ready for half priced dining

There’s no such thing as a free lunch —but in Canberra there is now such a thing as a half-priced dinner.

New restaurant discovery service First Table will launch in Canberra next Monday 15 January, with restaurants offering half-priced early dinner deals to registered users.

First Table offers exclusive deals to diners booking early evening seating and operates in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Hobart. It has more than 520 restaurant partners across Australia and New Zealand.

First Table Territory Manager Jessie Monkley says Canberra diners are in for a real treat with the new offerings.

“First Table is not only a chance to finally visit that local venue that you’ve been meaning to try, but also a great opportunity to expand your horizons by discovering new establishments at half price.”

“There are so many amazing dining spots in Canberra and the First Table team is excited to be able to not only share them with diners — but also to introduce the restaurants to customers who could become their next regulars.”

Monkley says the business has been busy forming relationships with the Canberra hospitality industry and has about a dozen restaurants for patrons to dine at from the launch.

Diners can sign up for free at www.firsttable.com.au to search for early bird dining — the first tables — being offered at restaurants across the city each day. A booking costs just $10 and the total food bill is half price for 2-4 diners.

First Table Founder Mat Weir says the popularity of First Table throughout Australia and New Zealand shows a huge appetite for people wanting new dining experiences.

“Maybe they don’t know about these places or just needed an excuse to finally try somewhere new, but we see time and again how First Table customers get these amazing experiences for a discounted price and then keep going back as loyal patrons.

“The restaurants love it too because they get to showcase their passions and products to a whole new demographic of customer — it’s seriously cool to be able to bring this all to the table.”

First Table launched in Queenstown, New Zealand in 2013 to overcome one of the hospitality industry’s oldest problems: slow starts to evenings. It has since helped more than 140,000 diners discover the best restaurants in their area without breaking the bank.
