10+ new places to eat in Canberra this spring

Posted on

Spring has sprung, Canberra. But tulips aren’t the only new things bringing us joy this season.

Even with COVID making life difficult for Canberra’s hospos, there are plenty of new places to eat, drink, lounge and relax in as we celebrate this warm weather.

Here’s where to make a booking this spring, foodies. Just remember to always be COVID-safe when dining out.

Betty’s Burgers (Civic)

Betty’s might be the new kid on the burger block for most Canberrans, but she’s not that new to some.

If the name sounds familiar, you may have seen Betty’s colourful branding in Sydney or Melbourne—or even Byron Bay, where Betty’s first started.

Now slinging American diner-style burgers, shakes and concrete sundaes on Bunda Street, Betty’s tropical-themed interior is usually bustling—so make sure to book in advance.

Sydney’s Biang Biang will soon debut it’s very first ACT store at Canberra Centre and foodies can look forward to authentic flavours from China’s Shaanxi province—think hand-pulled noodles and one of their most popular signature dishes, rougamo or ‘burger’, where pastry is stuffed with pulled pork. Yum.

Garema Place’s newest bubble tea sensation comes all the way from New York City, with these popular franchises bubbling up (sorry) all over the globe.

Head here for Taiwanese-style bubble tea in flavours like ‘Three Guys’ (milk tea with pearls, pudding and grass jelly) and ‘Bubble Gaga’ (passionfruit green tea with pearls and lychee jelly).

Excuse us while we dive into the cheesy deliciousness that is the Department of Pizza at Campbell Shops.

Think authentically made wood-fired pizza brought to you by the team behind The Pizza Trailer. With plenty of Italian and local wines by the glass and bottle, this is the only Department you’ll want to report to on a Friday night.

Lovers of eight/twenty‘s food (which is 80 per cent good for you and 20 percent cheeky—a good mix if ever we’ve seen one!), no longer have to drive to Braddon for their acai bowl or smoothie, with the popular wholefood café opening an offshoot in Kingston’s new Kingsborough precinct.

Colour and taste are the names of the game of Misu Castle, which is your ultimate destination for I-wish-I-was-travelling-this-year eating.

With Hong Kong-style matcha mille crepe cakes, coconut mango tapioca pudding and durian cakes made fresh daily, we can all pretend we’re overseas…at least for a few mouthfuls.
