An elegant new High Tea menu and the return of the beloved High Tea buffet – why a visit to the Hyatt is a must-do this autumn

In a place where modern luxury meets old-world charm, this autumn you’ll find a seasonal dining experience like no other.
Everyone remembers the first time they walked into the grand lobby of the Hyatt Hotel Canberra to experience the much-loved high tea. Whether it was for a special occasion or a simple indulgence, the moment the doorman opened the door, the excitement of spending a long afternoon enjoying the time-honoured tradition of sipping on tea and eating scones was impossible to ignore.
And with a high-tea tradition that goes back decades, the launch of the new Autumn High Tea menu at The Tea Lounge by Hyatt Hotel Canberra will bring a delightful twist, offering a refreshed, and refined way to savour the flavours of the city’s most colourful season.
Available from this weekend until June, the heritage hotel will be serving an array of finely curated sweet and savoury treats, designed to capture the essence of autumn and delight all the senses.

The sweets on offer.
Going beyond the normal Tea Lounge offering, this special menu sees a blend of rich, warming flavours and seasonal ingredients combining traditional and classic dishes with a contemporary twist.
Highlighting flavours like fig, pear, peach and pumpkin while also incorporating Fall colours, Hyatt Hotel Canberra’s skilled culinary team – led by Head Pastry Chef, Anita Chung – have created a unique opportunity to experience the best of the season through an elegant and timeless tradition.
“The menu items are carefully curated to reflect the hotel’s heritage and the changing season,” says Anita.
“I considered traditional favourites and contemporary trends, sourcing local and seasonal ingredients to create a balanced and appealing selection that honours the hotel’s legacy while delighting modern palates.”

After all, what sounds better than nibbling on warm Pumpkin Scones served with double cream and local quince paste and washing them down with the Hyatt Hotel Canberra’s own bespoke brew, Rose Floriat?
With other menu highlights including Black Angus Beef Steak and Gruyère pies, Banana Double Chocolate Budino Tart and Pêches Rosier mousse (a tribute to the heritage rose gardens), it’s worth noting here that the decadence of the experience goes beyond the food.

Some of the savoury treats.
Providing a unique setting where guests can truly enjoy the exquisite treats – all of which are made in-house – while overlooking the gardens, the heritage art deco Tea Lounge combines sophistication and comfort while sharing the hotel’s storied past.
It’s no wonder that a Hyatt High Tea has become so iconic due to its blend of luxury, tradition, and culinary excellence – and the Autumn High Tea will be no different.
And to add to the excitement of the season, the Hyatt is also reviving its famous High Tea Buffet especially for Easter on Sunday 20 April.
“The Buffet brings a sense of nostalgia and we often hear requests to bring it back,” says Anita.
“The buffet will feature our Autumn High Tea, along with dessert stations including chocolate mud cake, chocolate trifle, strawberry cream trifle, tiramisu, panna cotta, red velvet cupcake, madeleine, raspberry chia seed pudding, chocolate mousse, and NY cheesecake.”

With two sessions running from 10 am until 12 pm and 2 pm – 4 pm, for $108 per person (including a glass of sparkling wine) or $54 for children aged six to 12 years, guests will also be treated to a live creperie station and a Florence Gelato Pop-Up.
And if that’s not enough, they will also launch a bespoke Hyatt Hotel Canberra gelato flavour created by Florence Gelato Executive Chef Matteo Sassi.
“The Vanilla Bean Rosewater gelato with a strawberry gel takes inspiration from our iconic High Teas and our beautiful heritage Rose Courtyard,” explains Anita.
“There will also be a kids Easter Egg hunt in the gardens at 3 pm!”
There’s never been a better time to indulge in this iconic Canberra experience, one delicate bite at a time.
