Made your way through our last list of six new places to eat? We have…
The past couple of years have made many of us much more comfortable spending plenty of time at home—perhaps a bit too comfortable—yet also desperate at times to get out and about and spend some time beyond the perimeters of our abodes.
That’s where the local pub can come in, providing that nice balance of being somewhere you can relax and feel comfortable with either your friends or the whole family, with something to keep everyone amused, yet no one needs to lift a finger or clean up.
That was the vision behind Woden’s newest local The Alby—a 1,000m2 gastropub boasting multiple bars and dining spaces, a large beer garden and a games basement. Sitting on the ground floor of the DOMA Group’s Alexander and Albemarle (or A&A) Buildings, The Alby burst onto the dining scene in late 2021, bringing food, drinks, fun, games with a relaxed, local atmosphere. Think of it as your home away from home, albeit with much better food, drinks, entertainment and staff to look after you.
Open Wednesday to Sunday from 11 am to late, the all-day menu has something to keep everyone happy, from salmon crudo or the burrata dish, to wedges or sausage rolls.
Then there are the salads, pizzas, plus mains like burgers, parmigiana, market fish or the butcher’s block selection of premium meat cuts. Downstairs in the basement, the menu is a lighter selection of snacks, tacos, nachos and pizzas.
Speaking of the basement, down there you’ll find a whole lot of fun, with pinball, pool tables, and Australia’s first Duckpin Bowling—a 10-pin game popular throughout Canada and the United States which uses smaller-sized balls without finger holes and is best enjoyed with a drink in hand.
The sleek yet relaxed space is the creation of owners DOMA developments and the guiding talents of Capezio Copeland, and is equally comfortable whether you’re taking the family for a meal, going for lunch with your colleagues, or having evening drinks with the girls.
And there’s plenty more planned for The Alby over the coming months—keep your eyes peeled for extended hours and a new breakfast menu, plus plenty of events.
If you’re keen to catch the Superbowl, The Alby’s first big event of the year will see the game on the five big screens in the basement.
