Holy Cow serves up gelato for good with this heartwarming collaboration

Guilt-free gelato is on the menu at Holy Cow thanks to the most heartwarming collaboration you’ll hear about this winter.
Previously known as Spilt Milk Bar, Dickson gelato shop Holy Cow has partnered with Roundabout Canberra – a community-powered charity that provides high-quality, essential baby and children’s items to families in need – to launch a limited-edition gelato flavour, with 100 per cent of proceeds from every scoop going to the charity.
Holy Cow owner Omer Siddiq says the collaboration came from his desire to give back to the community he loves. Following a customer’s suggestion, he says that the moment he walked into the Roundabout Canberra warehouse, he knew it would be a sweet partnership.
“We went by the warehouse, and it was beautiful to see other Canberrans coming in and dropping off incredibly expensive prams, strollers and baby seats – anything that local kids may need and might not have access to, especially at this time where like everyone’s a little bit squeezed for cash,” he explains.
“There are brilliant initiatives in Canberra that are just doing great things.”
Reaching out to Roundabout Canberra CEO and Founder Hannah Andrevski, Omer explained to the team that while he might not have a pram or stroller to donate, he could offer something else: a collaboration where every dollar raised would go straight back into the charity.
Hannah jumped at the opportunity, and together they came up with the flavour they thought would best represent the organisation: S’mores.
“When Omer suggested creating a special flavour to support Roundabout, we were thrilled. Together we landed on S’mores because it represents warmth, comfort and safety, which are exactly what we hope to provide for every child and family we support,” explains Hannah.
After spending many hours in the kitchen and working through various iterations of the dessert, the resulting flavour is the perfect antidote to a cold winter’s day.
Featuring a cookies-and-cream gelato base, layered with big chunks of biscuits, and topped with a house-made Nutella sauce and a house-made marshmallow sauce, Omer says each scoop tastes like sitting by a campfire.
“I think it’s a fun and creative way to give back…if you want some gelato and don’t want to feel bad about yourself, go grab a scoop of the S’mores flavour,” he says with a laugh.
“You might not have changed the world, but that’s maybe one per cent of a stroller, or one per cent of a baby seat, or of something that could really help someone.”

Since its launch in 2018, Roundabout Canberra has grown into a leading community charity, working with newborns through to children aged 16 to ensure that they have the essentials they need to feel safe, warm and included. They partner with 140 social service organisations and work with more than 200 social workers across Canberra and the surrounding regions.
As well as offering the opportunity to indulge in a delicious scoop of gelato guilt-free, Omer hopes that the collaboration reminds people of the work Roundabout Canberra does during a time when everyone is feeling the pinch of the cost-of-living crisis.
“Selling one scoop and donating the profit from one scoop isn’t going to do a lot, but if you think of that across 1000 scoops or 2000 scoops, suddenly that’s a bunch of strollers, a bunch of car seats and a bunch of sports equipment that will go towards kids who maybe don’t have access to it in our community right now,” he explains.
“This isn’t some random kid who’s a number on some ad. It’s someone who likely lives within a 15-minute drive of me, who is really struggling right now. That broke my heart.”
Made in-house with local ingredients, Hannah says that the collaboration is the perfect example of the Canberra community coming together to do something good.
“Partnerships like this are so valuable because they introduce new people to Roundabout while helping us respond to growing demand,” she says.
“Right now, we’re supporting around 20 per cent more children than we were at this time last year, so every scoop sold will help more local families access the essential items they need.”
The S’mores-flavoured gelato will be available until Saturday 19 September.
Talk about a melt-worthy story.
