House of Desserts to bring customisable desserts to Verity Lane

Sweet tooth? House of Desserts is bringing a customisable dessert bar to Verity Lane. And it opens tomorrow!

Since its opening in 2020, Verity Lane Market has transformed the Sydney Building into a foodie’s paradise with gastronomic experiences unlike anywhere else in Canberra.

And while it’s housed some of the city’s best chefs serving a mouth-watering range of cuisines, the focus has mostly been on savoury dishes. Until now.

Officially opening tomorrow, 5 pm Friday 21 November, House of Desserts will be joining the great food hall, bringing a customisable dessert bar that will have sugar addicts lining up for their next rush. And to celebrate, they’ll be giving away free strawberry cups (fresh strawberries, paired with Belgian chocolate) on Friday and Saturday to the first 30 customers each evening!

A family-run business based in Macgregor, House of Desserts began after founder Tamara Sameeh turned her passion for baking into something much bigger.

After building a loyal following for allowing customers to build their own sweet creation from the base up, the move to Verity Lane marks a massive next step for the business – one that will allow them to bring their treats to the heart of Canberra.

“I actually studied Medical Science at the University of Canberra, so my background isn’t in hospitality,” explains Tamara.

“After graduating, I found it difficult to secure a job in that field, so I ran a home daycare for several years. When COVID-19 arrived, I had to close the daycare — that’s when I turned my passion for baking into a business.

“I’d always loved making desserts for family and friends, so I began sharing my creations online. Within weeks, people started placing orders, and that’s how House of Desserts was born.”

The concept is simple: you start with crepes, waffles, or pancakes as the base, then choose from a wide range of spreads, fillings, fruits, and toppings to build your dream dessert.

House of Desserts is known for being a little “over the top” with a range of other desserts available – think Ferrero Rocher Bites, waffle platters, Lotus Biscoff milkshakes, and dessert sushi rolls – all of which are freshly made, playful, and designed to be shared.

Offering most of their most popular House of Dessert items, Tamara says the Verity Lane location will not only have the customisable crepes, waffles, and pancakes but also their Bites, Sushi and milkshakes.

“Everything that made us popular online – indulgent and beautifully presented desserts – will be there.”

Working alongside her brother, sister and a couple of loyal employees, Tamara says that each dessert will be made with the same care and creativity that started in her home kitchen.

Tamara says she is excited to join the six other local vendors at Verity Lane, and thankful for the endless community support House of Desserts has received over the years.

And as she looks to expanding her small business, she says while it’s hard to choose just one dish to try, there are a few that will have customers scraping up every last crumb.

“Our new Dubai-inspired line is definitely a standout — it’s fun to make and even better to eat!” says Tamara.

“Our Bites and Sushi are another fan favourites that I love. As for what’s next, we’re always experimenting with new flavours and limited-edition items – so you can expect more creative desserts to come.

“From the early days in Dunlop to where we are now, Canberra has really embraced us. We can’t wait to serve our desserts to even more people at Verity Lane — it’s going to be sweet!”
