Super Bao has opened on the southside

Posted on

Known for their popular baos and unique bao-gers, Super Bao has built up a legion of fans across town.

And now those on the southside won’t need to cross the lake to get their hands on the tasty morsels.

Super Bao has just opened on the southside for the very first time at Westfield Woden’s Bradley Street dining precinct, located in a specially kitted-out shipping container.

Created by locals Paul Xu and Angel Zhang, the delicious eatery started as a street food market stall before launching a permanent restaurant in Dickson back in 2019. In 2020, they expanded and opened a second outlet at Verity Lane Market in Civic, with Super Bao Woden marking their third venue.

Their food is all about bringing authentic Asian flavours with a modern twist, with everything cooked fresh to order, using premium ingredients. The Woden menu features some of their popular street food and includes baos in eight flavours, like braised pork belly, crackling pork belly and Korean fried chicken. Super Bao is also known for their bao-gers—it’s kind of like the lovechild of a burger and the taco shaped Gua Bao (Taiwanese steamed bun)—and the Woden eatery will feature brand new flavours.

“We’re one of the few places where you can find bao-gers in Canberra and we think ours are the best. Our bao-ger menu currently includes four different options and the wagyu cheese bao-ger is definitely a favourite. It features a double wagyu patty, cheese, sliced tomato, lettuce, onion rings, tonkatsu sauce and a burger sauce,” says Angel.

“We’ve also taken the elements of our popular Kungpo Chicken that’s available at our Dickson restaurant to create the Kungpo Chicken Bao-ger. The crispy fried chicken is covered with our tasty kungpo sauce and it’s layered with lettuce, tomato, onion rings, pickles, crushed cashew nuts and aioli all inside the fluffy bao-ger bun.”

And what’s better than bao-gers? Free bao-gers.

To celebrate their opening, Super Bao Woden is giving away 100 free bao-gers on Friday 28 January from 11.30 am until sold out.  They’re also continuing the celebrations with a bunch of weekly specials. Buy a bao-ger between 31 January and 6 February and receive a free fries, or between 7-13 February, buy one bao and get one free.

While all food is prepared to take away, there are plenty of spots to sit down and enjoy your meal around the Bradley Street dining precinct, or inside at the Westfield Woden food court. The opening of Super Bao Woden will also mean those within the delivery area can now get their bao-ger fix home delivered, with delivery available via Menulog.

“We’re a small family business so we put 200% into everything we do from creating the food we serve to providing the best customer service possible,” says Angel.

“We’d like our Woden location to be known as an Asian burger house and we’re thrilled to finally give southsiders a permanent taste of our unique and tasty creations.”
