Drink up, new bars in Canberra to check out

Posted on

Need a spot to sip? Canberra has plenty of bars, but it’s time to try something new.

We’ve done the drinking (and the thinking) and these six bars are worth checking out. Pull up a glass and try these watering holes for some well-deserved drinks.

Ambrosia Lounge (Fyshwick)

Moody, sophisticated and luxurious as you would find in an inner-city laneway in Sydney or Melbourne, Ambrosia Lounge promises to be a luxe new chapter in Canberra’s cocktail evolution.

Created by the men behind the Ambrosia Distillery, Andrew Galbraith and his co-distiller Tim Stephens, refined tipples are guaranteed. We’ve got our eyes on the Zeus-tini and the smooth Hades Old fashioned.

With around 42 local wineries represented on their list,  all tap beer brewed especially for The Denman by The Kingston Brewing Company, and spirits on offer for those wanting a tipple or two, this may just become your newest haunt.

A tasty nose-to-tail menu of pub favourites gives you a reason to stick around.

Brought to life by the team behind award-winning speakeasy Volstead Repeal, you know that The Peacemaker Saloon is going to be a popular watering hole – especially as it serves some old-fashioned American Southwestern drinks.

Wondering what you can expect? Think the Desperado of Patron Silver, Mezcal, lychee, lime, vanilla, and whites, or the Tombstone of Bacardi Ocho, apricot, lime, and winter spices. BYO cowboy hat!

Tucked away in the back of the Branx building on Lonsdale Street, this an unexpected spot for a tipple.

Showcasing a diverse range of wines that goes beyond a Chardonnay or a Pinot Noir, it’s the by-the-glass selections ($14 – $18) that sets Romanée apart from other bars. But if wine isn’t your drink of choice, you can’t skip the signature cocktails, best enjoyed with some delicious bar snacks.

OTIS isn’t new, but it does have a new addition – and we predict that it will quickly become the go-to location for those looking for an elegant escape from the Canberra cold.

OTIS Lounge is a small, intimate space bringing some serious snacks and sips to Kingston – serving comforting cuisine and cocktails for those with a slightly more elegant taste. Plush, moody, and stylish, from cocktails to charcuterie, Friday night has never sounded so good.
