The newest player in Braddon’s blossoming foodie scene opened yesterday. Grease Monkey sits on the corner…
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Gelato Messina has opened the doors to its second Canberra store.
It was also a step towards equity, with one store in Kingston and the other in Braddon. What could be fairer?
The decision by Gelato Messina to come to Canberra in 2018 turns out to have been a wise business strategy.
The Lonsdale Street Braddon store has proved to be the Sydney-based dessert empire’s busiest of all 21 outlets across the country.
And now, the company is capitalising on Canberra’s icecream addiction by opening the second Gelato Messina near Green Square in Kingston, within the new Supabarn development and Eyre Street Market.
Just up from Wildflour, Gelato Messina Kingston is a smidge smaller than the Londsdale Street store, and seats up to 30 customers split between semi-private indoor curved booths and outdoor areas.
Customers can order the same 40 flavours within their trademark custom pozzetti cabinets, that they queue for in all Messina stores, along with limited edition and festive product releases, Messina Jersey milk, spreads and gelato toppings.
The team said “We never expected the response that we’ve had from locals in Canberra. Our Braddon store which opened in 2018, is currently our busiest site amongst 21 locations. We’re looking forward to opening in another Canberra community hub and being part of the Green Square, Kingston redevelopment.”
At least it might take some pressure off the inevitable queues that form in Braddon each day.
