Free hot dogs and Oktoberfest brews. Get ready for the opening of The Bavarian at Westfield Belconnen.

North Canberra, are you ready for your very own slice of Europe? After a warm reception southside, The Bavarian is coming northside–and they’re doing it in style.

Tomorrow at 11 am, The Bavarian will celebrate the opening of its newest restaurant at Westfield Belconnen by giving away 500 of their classic European-style hotdogs.

Located on Level 3 next to Yogurtland, The Bavarian’s second Canberra location will be an airy space filled with long tables, a custom-made vintage beer barrel wall, exposed brick, leafy plant boxes and one of their signature beer chandeliers.

Seating 250, The Bavarian will bring German beer hall-style dining to the northside with banquet-style tables perfect for large groups and families, as well as bar seating perfect for people watching. If that’s not your jam, you also can catch live sports on one of the large screen TVs.

And if 500 free hotdogs weren’t enough, celebrations are set to continue as The Bavarian kicks off its Oktoberfest launch weekend from this Saturday 21 September.

We’re talking traditional German music, Oktoberfest games, challenges, special menus, prizes, competitions (yes, there is a yodelling competition) and, of course, official Oktoberfest beer.

Diners are encouraged to dress up in their best dirndls and lederhosen for the chance to win a $200 restaurant voucher and the title of Best Dressed of Oktoberfest and if that doesn’t crumb your schnitzel, there’s always The Bavarian’s traditional German menu, including Oktoberfest favourites such as crispy pork knuckle, crackling pork belly and a range of classic German and gourmet sausages.

Bringing your mates? Order the Munich Brewer’s Platter, which features a range of pork dishes, house made sausages, chicken schnitzel, sauerkraut, red cabbage, bier jus, mash potatoes and apple compote.

To wash it down, customers will have the choice of 20 beers on tap, including imported favourites Löwenbräu, Franziskaner, Stiegl, Spaten and Hofbräu and during Oktoberfest (21 September-27 October) The Bavarian will also be pouring famous Oktoberfest beers Hofbräu München Oktoberfestbier, Löwenbräu Oktoberfestbier, Spaten Oktoberfestbier and Paulaner Oktoberfestbier, each of which have been imported from Bavaria.

If that wasn’t enough, there will also be two brand new, Australian-made beers on the menu that have been brewed exclusively for The Bavarian celebrations– Pirate Life Fiestbier and 4 Pines Kellar Door Schwartzbier.
