It was a dark and freezing night as we trundled through the bush to the…
If you haven’t heard the news, we have something sad to tell you: Kokomo’s is no more.
The vacant cocktail bar has had hastily thrown-up plywood panels over windows for weeks with not even a note to be found, begging the question “What happened to the best Pina Coladas in town?!” Well, our team of crack investigators has thrown themselves at uncovering this mystery, i.e. we’ve spent a lot of time stalking Kokomo’s social media.
By the looks of it, the Harrington brothers have spent lockdown dreaming up a new creation focusing on food packed full of flavour that everyone should love: Asian BBQ.
Introducing Wilma. Coined as Canberra’s first ever progressive Asian BBQ, the new restaurant launched officially on social media today (Tuesday 16 November) and it will be coming soon to the heart of the CBD.
Similar to the pop-up Krakatoa, which took Canberrans on a culinary adventure to South-East Asia via the flavours of Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand, Wilma looks to be focusing on a new, exotic menu to entice people back into the dining scene.
With a name like Wilma, we might be able to expect a possible visit from Fred, Barney and Betty….get it? But on a serious note, if the Krakatoa trial run was any indication, we can safely say delicious BBQ’d meat is the latest addition to Genge Street.
But wait, that’s not where the mystery ends! Just days ago on Facebook, Kokomo’s changed their handle to The Pearl. So what is happening behind the hoarding – two venues in one? Perhaps one more casual and one fine dining? Or could The Pearl be a cocktail bar? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Let’s just hope they keep the cocktails….please?
