Is this Canberra’s best-kept secret? Meet the French Patisserie that’s (almost) completely gluten-free
Posted on
Hold the incredibly dry and unsatisfying gluten-free brownie—a French Patisserie is making all our sweet dreams come true, right here in Canberra.
Was anyone else éclair about this? Because I wasn’t—and anyone living with Coeliac Disease or gluten intolerance knows the pain of watching someone bite into a perfectly made cake or pastry (hello, Three Mills Bakery almond croissant) while you’re stuck with a mediocre gluten-free brownie or—in some cases—nothing at all.
But while wandering through the Little Burley Markets on Saturday morning, I discovered W Patisserie. And as a big ‘gluten free’ sign flapped in the breeze, I stared longingly at passionfruit, salted caramel, and dark chocolate eclairs, raspberry, and coconut macarons, and numerous picture-perfect tarts, and dared to ask the question: “which of them is gluten-free?”
“All of them.”
All. Of. Them. Cue angels coming down from the heavens.

Created by Pastry Chef Kotesh, W Patisserie makes authentic French desserts with a very special choux dough. And from traditional éclairs with a crispy shell and smooth filling to dessert jars including hazelnut cheesecake and apple crumble (sometimes savoury quiche), almost all the offerings have no gluten, and many are also vegan.
Popping up at the Little Burley Market every Saturday and Haig Park Village Markets every Sunday, you can also order the treats online—perfect for a mid-work week pick-me-up.
So, did I try something in the end? Oui, oui. And all I can say is sitting by the lake, sipping an iced coffee, and consuming a gluten-free punchy passionfruit éclair is très magnifique.
