L’Americano bringing Italian food and cocktails to the Coco Republic table

Posted on

What could be more indulgent than browsing the beautiful new Coco Republic showroom in the middle of Civic?

How about sitting upstairs in the store’s Italian Riviera-styled restaurant L’Americano and ordering a cocktail to help you decide which marble coffee table you simply cannot live without?

L’Americano opened its doors this week following last week’s much-anticipated opening of the luxe Coco Republic showroom. It brings an Espresso Bar, Campari Bar and Modern Italian trattoria menu to the busy spot on Bunda Street within Canberra Centre’s design precinct.

Located directly above the vast furniture and lifestyle showroom, the restaurant and bar will operate for lunch seven days a week and for lunch and dinner from Tuesdays through to Saturdays.

While a number of Coco Republic stores nationally have their own L’Americano venues to enhance the shopping experience, the Canberra venue is the first of its kind within the group to boast a more serious and sophisticated restaurant menu—making it a place to sit down for a coffee before tackling sofa decisions, an elegant space for a corporate lunch, or simply a place to organise a beautiful Italian meal with friends or family.

With lockdown over and warm weather here to stay, L’Americano also promises to be an opportune spot to while away an afternoon, even if home décor is not under consideration.

With seating both indoors, at the bar or al fresco, the menu is suitable for all tastes, offering everything from shared antipasto offerings to a King Prawn Linguine. Standout dishes include Tajima Wagyu Flat Iron Steak with Porchini Butter and Broccolini, and Wood Roast Baby Chicken with Nduja Butter and Baby Peas.

The venue will also provide some friendly competition for inner-city bars, offering an expansive wine list that mixes hand-picked Italian varietals with prominent Australian labels.

With interiors inspired by the iconic ’90s movie, The Talented Mr Ripley, L’Americano exudes a playfulness that screams ‘hand me the cocktail menu’. And what a menu it proves to be.

From that point it becomes very difficult to decide not only which coffee table to invest in, but whether to order The Botanist—a heady mix of Organic Antipodes gin, St Germain elderflower, tonic, lemon, rosemary, star anise—or the Italica, which combines Italicus Rosolio Di Bergamotto Liqueur with Ketel One grapefruit and rose vodka, grapefruit, soda, and star anise.

And you thought sofa colours were tough.
