First look at Lanterne Botanical Bar

Posted on

A new bar at Lanterne Rooms and two new venues in the city for the Chairman Group—it’s all happening on Constitution Avenue.

When Josiah Li opened the new incarnation of Lanterne Rooms out of the new Iksia building on Constitution Avenue at the end of 2019, he had a vision for putting a glass greenhouse at the front of the restaurant to catch all that beautiful sun.

Lanterne Botanical does just that, providing a lush and tropical bar with the focus on botanical ingredients and the elegant highball cocktail.

Open from 4 pm, the glasshouse seats between 30-40 and extends the colonial feel of the restaurant out into an English garden setting. Happily for patrons, this includes a fully enclosed glass ceiling with heaters for year-round use.

Having secured the talents of former Bar Rochford mixologist Theo Boggs to oversee the cocktail menu, Lanterne Botanical will also be rolling out a dedicated bar snacks menu in the coming weeks.

But what is definitely available is a selection of beautiful drinks—not least the Imbroglio Amaro, with beetroot cordial, lime and watermelon tonic. Perhaps the Never Never triple gin with Marigold, Grapefruit and soda may appeal, or for whisky-lovers, a Canadian Club with spiced carrot, lemon and ginger beer.

There are also all your classic cocktails as well as a wine and beer list to ensure watching the sunset in between the ferns is a relaxing event.

Theo said the team wanted to maintain a relaxed neighbourhood vibe that held true to the style of Lanterne Rooms, which continues to please the hungry hordes with its elevated Nyonyan cuisine.

But that’s not all that’s happening for the Chairman Group.

Manager Adrian Law and Theo are working feverishly to prepare two brand new venues slated to open mid-year.

While Lanterne Rooms is at the Campbell-end of Constitution Avenue, the two new ventures are located at the start of the street within the $300 million Terry Snow Constitution Place development on the corner of London Circuit.

Chairman has secured two spaces down the new alleyway eateries that flank the Flatiron-inspired hotel and corporate offices.

Mu Omakase will be a 12-seater interpretation of a traditional omakase experience, while Cicada will be a bar with a sustainability ethos and no-waste policy on the menu.

As always, we will bring you further details of all these developments as preparations continue.

But if you’re after a classic taste of Chairman Group finesse, then Lanterne Botanical is now open for business.
