New locals worth leaving your ‘hood for

Posted on

If you’re sick of the usual Canberra eat streets, think local – we’ve rounded up a crop of newcomers worth leaving your ‘hood for.

From ramen in Tuggeranong to a cafe/bar in Florey and donuts in Torrens, there’s a whole lot happening in Canberra’s suburbs. And it’s all delicious.

Here they are, in alphabetical order.

Aby Coffee House (Gininderry)

Fresh sweet and savoury pastries and coffee are on the menu at Aby Coffee House – and honestly, you don’t need anything else. Open from 7 am every morning, Ginninderry locals can now get their early morning coffee fix without fuss.

Boru Ramenbar (Wanniassa)

Ramen lovers rejoice! Boru Ramen Bar is now open in Wanniassa. Serving authentic Japanese ramen, with broth made from scratch and plenty of noodles, as well as the option to add some delicious sides (hello, Chicken Karaage and gyoza), the word ‘delicious’ is an understatement.

Dookki Australia (Belconnen)

Did someone say “all you can eat Korean”? Head to Belconnen for a Korean Tteokbokki buffet that’s travelled all the way from Sydney to treat your tastebuds.

Wondering how it works? Make your own delicious dish by customising your sauce, adding your choice of topokki, fishcakes, vegetables, and noodles, and enjoy (just make sure to leave some room for the fried rice and fried chicken).

Finley Watermelon Café (Torrens)

Located next door to OMG Donuts in Torrens (and owned by the same family), Finley Watermelon is making sure that everyone can enjoy a morning coffee and donut – and for that we’re very thankful.

Progressively expanding their hours and offerings, at the moment you can grab yourself a coffee, gluten-free OMG donut, cake, slice, frittata and toastie from Wednesday to Sunday. Pop in to treat yourself.

Manoosh Pizzeria (Weston)

Freshly-baked pizza and wraps are on the menu for those located in Weston Creek because Manoosh Pizzeria has opened its doors next to Domino’s.

Inspired by the Lebanese heritage of Sydney-based owner and founder Charlie Hoyek, each dish is packed full of fresh, colourful, comforting, and fragrant ingredients that will leave you wanting more. Your lazy Friday night dinners are sorted.

Muku Ramen (Scullin)

Opening late last year at the Scullin shops, here you’ll find Shōjin and Hokkaido-inspired food and drinks that are a little different from your usual ramen bar offering. Think: potato mochi dumplings with house-made cashew mozzarella, parmesan, and Japanese BBQ sauce, gluten-free gyoza, Muroran curry ramen, and a matcha panna cotta with strawberry compete and a dusting of pistachio. Yum.
