Finding Nookie

Posted on

Nookie Espresso Bar – you may recognise the name. It used to be a little hole in the wall in Garema Place.

Opening in 2014, it was there that Nookie Espresso Bar established itself as a friendly, honest and warm place to buy coffee and baked treats in the middle of the city. It didn’t take owners Liv and Nam long to build up a regular client base because of their down to earth service and amazing coffee.

The duo always had long-term plans to open a larger space, but that plan came sooner than expected. In May, the Garema Place nook was closed to start work on their bigger, brighter space in the historic Sydney Building.

Not wanting to let their loyal customers down, Liv and Nam ran a cart serving their sought-after coffee brewed with ‘Blacksmiths’ coffee.

“We did the whole fit out ourselves which took us four months to complete. In that time we didn’t want to let our customers down so we ran our pop-up coffee cart in the new space while we were building,” says Liv.

Nookie is not just about great coffee and sweets now, they have been able to expand to a simple, quick and fresh eat in menu AND a ‘grab&go’ menu. This concept is perfect for city goers who want a good quality meal but don’t have the time to stop. If you are time poor you can grab things like yogurt cups, steak sandwiches and even an egg and bacon roll with a coffee for $10.

“Obviously, we are aware of the importance of supporting local business so where we can, we are sourcing our produce and supplies locally. Our bread comes from Three Mills Bakery, all of our relishes and dressings are from the Capital Regional Farmers Market and our lovely cupcakes and slices come from a local girl at Veganarchy,” explains Liv.

Due to their personal and friendly service, Liv and Nam’s customer base have followed them to the new space and are loving the new Nookie.

“We have an awesome cross range of clientele. From public servants to uni students and we continue to provide free coffee to the homeless in the area, “ says Liv.

So if you are after good, honest food, awesome coffee and great service, you need to put the new Nookie on your list of places to try. Pretty sure it may become your regular!
