A sensational new food, wine, and lifestyle destination, tucked in a rural setting, minutes from Canberra’s airport and eight minutes from Canberra’s CBD, will be unveiled this week.

Pialligo Estate, set on 86 acres with river frontage to the Molonglo, was the Canberra region’s original market garden, dating back to the 1820s.

Owned by business partners Rowan Brennan and John Russell since 2010, Pialligo Estate has grown with their passion for fresh produce, food, gardens, and architecture.

Today the Estate has been expanded to incorporate an olive grove, vineyard, orchard, market garden, and the award-winning Pialligo Smokehouse.

The Estate will re-open its doors this Friday night after an extensive refurbishment including a new Farmhouse Restaurant.

“We have found Pialligo Estate as a place where we can live and relax with our families and friends,” Rowan explained. “It’s such a unique part of Canberra —a rural lifestyle only minutes from the city with uninterrupted views of Parliament House, the City skyline,  Duntroon, Black Mountain, and the Brindabellas.”

“Our friends loved visiting Pialligo Estate so much, we decided to open the Estate to guests to enjoy a unique food, wine and lifestyle experience.”

“We are driven by the concept of paddock to plate (which is too often claimed). At Pialligo Estate, our diners can see the working farm where their food comes from.”

“The Pialligo Farmhouse overlooks our own grape vines, fruit orchard, market gardens, olive grove, and the historical smokehouse.”

Internationally recognised architectural firm Grounds Kent and landscape designer Paul Bangay, have created a magnificent environment to enjoy the Estate’s produce and take in the panoramic views of Canberra.

Featuring natural stones, recycled timbers and over 12,000 plants, the Pialligo Farmhouse Restaurant is simply amazing.

Pialligo Estate’s Culinary Director and Michelin-starred chef, Jan Gundlach has brought together an exceptional and exciting young culinary team for the Farmhouse restaurant headed by Chef de cuisine, Brendan Walsh and Sous chef, Brian Logan.

Sous chef, Brian Logan’s experience includes five years at Tetsuya’s in Sydney.” Jan explains “The opportunity to create a new seasonal menu featuring our own produce every day is truly unique.”

Since 2013, Pialligo Smokehouse has received 44 national food awards. Last year, the Pialligo Smokehouse was awarded Australia’s Best Artisan Bacon and the Champion medal for its smoked Salmon at the Sydney Royal Show.
