This week on Corona-Time Cocktails, meet the Margherita’s chic cousin

Posted on

Welcome to Corona-Time Cocktails—bringing the bar to your place each Friday evening!

We’re getting excited, Canberra—and we know you are too. Restrictions are gradually easing, we’re able to see friends face to face and we’re feeling, well, positive.

That’s why this week’s Corona-Time cocktail is the most festive of all—a tequila-based libation called The Toreador—translation: the bullfighter.

Thanks to our mates at Jim Murphy, we’ve made it super easy for you to join in the fun with your own Toreador cocktail!

You can order your very own ingredient pack online now—and have it delivered in time for Friday evening cocktails with us on our Instagram stories at 7 pm sharp, where we’ll walk you through how to make your own. Olé!

But first—the ingredients.

The Toreador

Known as the cousin of the classic margherita, The Toreador was actually invented in 1937, more than 16 years before it’s close relative—a fun fact to reel off around the bar cart once we’re able to hold cocktail parties again.

Using apricot brandy liqueur (trust us) instead of Triple Sec, you can elevate the iconic combination of lime and tequila to a tropical new level. The perfect cocktail for pretending you’re on the 2020 holiday you had to cancel. Sigh.

Pairs well with some festive decorations and food, good friends and planning your next holiday. Hello 2021!

Ingredients

  • 60ml Olmeca Altos Plata Tequila
  • 30ml lime juice
  • 15ml Apricot Brandy
  • Dash of sugar syrup (more or less depending how sweet you want)
  • Ice
  • Lime wedge to garnish (optional)

Barware

You’ll need a cocktail shaker, fine strainer, and a coupe glass to serve.
