South Coast eats: Batemans Bay to Jervis Bay

Posted on

From Berry’s historic charm to Mollymook’s ocean views, the stretch between Batemans Bay and Jervis Bay is packed with unforgettable dining experiences.

Whether you’re after Asian street eats, bush tucker among the treetops, or fresh seafood with your toes in the sand, this coastal strip has something for every appetite.

We’ve rounded up the best spots to eat, drink, and linger a little longer – from industrial-vintage bars pouring frozen daiquiris to Japanese-inspired haunts serving cocktails on tap. Get ready to discover why the South Coast’s food scene is worth the drive.

The Rutledge Bar and Eats (Berry)

Long days, cold drinks, and live music every weekend – The Rutledge is the best of Berry. Open seven days a week, this industrial-vintage style bar and eatery is located on Queen Street in a historic building that was once home to Berry’s blacksmith workshop.

Serving up delicious small plates to share, the menu focuses on modern flavours while still emphasising South Coast produce – including chilli and lime squid and charred octopus.

As for the drinks? From a frozen mango daiquiri to a lychee and mint martini, you’ll have plenty of options to cool off on a hot day.

Located at the stunning Paperbark Camp, The Gunyah welcomes non-resident guests for breakfast, afternoon cocktails, bar snacks and dinner.

Serving delicious food and specially selected regional wines among the treetops, the concept of bush tucker is taken to another level while exploring the incredible diversity of contemporary Australian cuisine. Bookings are essential.

Flamin’ Galah Brewing Co. (Huskisson)

A beer garden is always a good idea, and here you’ll find great drinks and a great vibe (who doesn’t love pink concrete?). Along with sipping on fresh beers brewed only metres away while sitting under flowering Bougainvillea, their drinks also include hard soda, ginger beer and cocktails.

On the food menu, you’ll find everything from pizza to crispy chicken bao buns and fish tacos – the perfect pairing with an icy beer.

Japanese-inspired food, live music, DJs, cocktails and more – Bar Yuki is the place to be. Taking its cue from Tokyo’s record bars and serving konbini-style plates, the menu here is small but mighty. Including a drool-inducing Banana Cream Sando and Chicken Karaage with yuzu chilli glaze, they also have cocktails on tap (which makes for a dangerous offering).

Promising good food and good booze (along with some very good vibes), your stomach will thank you for stopping here.

Located on the outskirts of Milton, this charming eatery is all about wholefoods – and it sounds delicious. Rooted in the belief that good food starts with good produce, each dish is made from scratch with produce sourced locally or straight from the kitchen garden.

Open for breakfast and lunch, Nordic granola, drunken tofu, trout gravlax and roasted potato chats are just some examples of the seasonal offerings.

Choose a seat at the bar to watch the woks fire and charcoal smoke or snag a booth and let the classic tunes wash over you.
