Spring has sprung, and old ice cream shops grow anew: Stripey Sundae has reopened!

Celebrate the return of glowing sunshine and warm days with a new scoop from a returning Canberra classic.
Let’s be honest—Aussies love a good ice cream, no matter the weather. I still remember spending an autumnal afternoon trying to find an ice cream shop in England (spoiler alert—they shut down for winter very early). But with warm weather on the Canberra horizon, it’s the perfect time to scream for ice cream— especially with Stripey Sundae in Gold Creek officially reopening its doors.
A staple of the Gold Creek community, Stripey Sundae now has a new family guiding its churn. A nurse of 12 years, Jayde McKendrick has taken the leap of faith into owning her own business. A foodie at heart, Jayde has always loved the creative process of making desserts for those around her.
She explains, “Baking is my happy place… I love making people happy through their bellies.”
Having started her working life in a bakery, Jayde certainly knows a thing or two about making the sweetest treats. Swapping from nursing to owning her own ice cream shop is a big shift, but Jayde says she is excited about the challenge and the opportunity to share her love for baking and creating desserts with the Canberra community.
And if you’ve been missing your cult-favourites from Stripey Sundae (a scoop of peanut butter and chocolate anyone?), pine no more! Jayde says that they’ll be continuing to create the traditional flavours Stripey Sundae is known and loved for—especially their soy and coconut-based ice creams.

Though Jayde promises the ice cream remains the same—always made onsite at Stripey Sundae from ingredients that are raw, fresh, and (where possible) Australian-owned and made—the new menu will expand to offer even more tasty cold treats beyond your regular ice cream cone. Think—new drinks, ice cream cookie sandwiches, and a tasting flight board of affogato!
And it’s not just the menu that’s seen some excitement in the management changeover, patrons can also look forward to a newly revamped café. With a new eating space, outdoor deck, and a little kids play space, Jayde (and family) have given Stripey Sundae a new lease on life, whilst maintaining the beauty and nostalgic vibes that make the area of Gold Creek such a wonderful place to visit.
Another highlight is the new addition of an event bike to the Stripey Sundae family. The fully mobile electric bike is completely self-contained so that the Stripey Sundae team can hit the road and bring their flavours to special events around town—because who doesn’t love the idea of ice-cream at a wedding?

Stripey Sundae continues to be a family-owned, community-based product of love and dessert, as Jayde brings on board her husband and two young sons (who I hear especially love taste-testing the ice cream).
As of now, Jayde is taking the reopening one day at a time—enjoying playing around with the raw ingredients to find new flavours and twists (she especially loves fruity sorbets). She is happy to watch where this opportunity leads, though she does say that in the future they will be looking for some prospective employees who want to grow with the business and learn the ropes.
Talk about a delicious scoop to kick off your spring!
