In the spirit of healthy competition, Canberra’s newest it-restaurant Inka, is about to give Monster…
The Forage is making its second appearance on the grounds of the New Acton Precinct, with mobile vendors, music, wine and heaps more this Saturday 5 July – it’s a wonderfully relaxed way to wander and explore some of Canberra’s best food and wine producers, and have a taste of a few from further afield!
Among the offerings will be Dinner Rush’s gourmet heat and eat meals, Peruvian street food from Mr Papa, the French flavours of Cherville, Hard-Core Carnivore’s slow-cooked comfort food (perfect for wintry weather), Stockman Sticks‘s beef jerky, and the return of Mocan & Green Grout’s amazing Banh Mi.
Want some handmade goodness? The Canberra Cake Club is bringing their made-with-love treats to New Acton, as are The Muesli Bar, who’ll be giving you the chance to customise your own breakfast blend (or setting you up with some yummy porridge!) Moxom & Whitney will be adding some colour and personality with their beautiful flowers and terrariums.
If you have a hankering for a glass or two, there are plenty of options: Bing Bang will be back with their warming mulled wine; Poachers Pantry & Wily Trout Vineyard and Mount Majura Vineyard will be on hand with their great range of local reds and whites; and Stone & Wood Brewing are bringing their beers all the way from Byron Bay.
There’s also some fantastic entertainment in store, with music from The Night Cafe (think a combo of tango, salsa, a little French influence and gypsy swing); the luminous vocals and delicate meodies of local chanteuse Amber Nichols; and Solquemia Spanish Guitarist, Alejandro Florez.
But it’s not all about filling your tummy with delicious food and wine. This winter, The Forage and Hustle&Scout are joining forces with Vinnie’s to support and raise awareness for their 2014 Winter Appeal. On Saturday 5 July, Night Patrol Volunteers will head to the NewActon Precinct where they will be accepting donations of gloves, men’s socks and blankets, along with any coin donations you can spare. In particular, there is a serious shortage of blankets in the ACT at the moment.
Night patrol has provided 12,660 instances of support in 2012/2013 and has been operating in the Canberra region since August 2001. The van provides mobile outreach offering free food, a warm drink, a blanket, a jacket and a friendly face to people on the streets each night. The Night Patrol team aims to engage with people on the streets at night, offering friendship, support and compassion while upholding their dignity.
Donation bins will be spread between The Forage on Kendall Lane and over the road at Hustle&Scout at the NewActon Nishi. Why not bring along a blanket to keep you warm at The Forage and then pop it in a Vinnie’s donation bin on your way over to Hustle&Scout?!
