Tips for a Sparkling Christmas from The Champagne Dame

Posted on

A few weeks ago, The Champagne Dame Kyla Kirkpatrick swept into town, taking 50 Canberra Centre VIPs on a journey into the wonderful world of champagne.

It was a fascinating afternoon, full of history about the drink and the region, and I came away with it knowing far more about the ‘bubbles’ I so enjoy this time of year.

Given chances are you’ll be serving up at least one glass of champagne – or at least sparkling – this festive season, we asked Kyla to share her top champagne serving tips.

THE CHAMPAGNE DAME’S TOP CHAMPAGNE SERVING TIPS

  • When pouring present the bottle with the label up, out of respect to the champagne house.
  • Hold your flute at the stem keep the glass cooler, and therefore the champagne.
  • Pour smaller amounts and top up regularly, to ensure the champagne maintains its vivacious nature.
  • Use tulip shaped flutes as a preferred glass, to enhance the aromas of the champagne being served.
  • When opening, leave the wire cage (or ‘muselet’) on the cork and slowly twist, ensuring a quiet sigh upon opening, rather than a loud pop which is considered bad form.

Santé!
