Exploring The Truffle Festival at Westfield Woden

With truffle available in every way possible, The Truffle Festival is taking over Canberra from June to August, and to celebrate Westfield Woden is hosting a bustling market day featuring all the best truffles the region has to offer.
The mysterious Black Truffles grow underground when exposed to very particular conditions in late summer, slowly maturing during autumn and are ready to harvest in winter. They have a distinctive but indescribable taste and are used to enhance flavours in a variety of dishes.
On Saturday 25 June, Westfield Woden will offer the opportunity to taste some locally grown ‘black gold’ matched with the perfect wine as a part of their Truffle Festival Market Day. Kim Ashton says Westfield Woden are excited to be hosting this event for the first time.
“Westfield Woden will have a mouth-watering line-up of events available for the whole family including; cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, market stalls, appearances by local truffle growers (and their dogs!) plus an array of Kids activities”, she says.
“Truffles are a very successful emerging market for Canberra and surrounding regions, and we are thrilled to be able to work with the community to celebrate this,” she says “Hosting a Truffle Market Day in centre bring truffles into the city supporting local growers and all involved in the Festival.”
Truffle growers will be appearing to talk about their produce and share information on the mysterious black truffle. Macenmist Black Truffle and Turalla Truffles will also be hosting truffle hunt demonstrations with their famous truffle dogs at 12pm and 3pm.
“This is our third year working with the Truffle Festival,” Kim explains. “The past two years we’ve have cooking demonstrations in our Centres, however this year we are taking it to the next level with a full day of events and activities.”
The whole family can get involved in celebrating local produce with free kids’ activities available from 10am – 4pm.
“There will be lots to do for kids; my favourite is a craft activity to create your own truffle dog.” Kim says. “There will also be face painting and balloon bending.”
The Truffle Festival will also be coming to Westfield Belconnen on the 23rd July, so keep an eye out for even more delicious events throughout the 2016 Canberra Region Truffle Festival.
