A statement home of space and seclusion (and spas and saunas…)
Posted on
There are plenty of large and beautiful family homes in blue ribbon suburbs across Canberra, but few are quite as arresting as the home that sits majestically at the end of a cul-de-sac and at the foothills of Mount Ainslie – 4 Rosenthal Street, Campbell.
It’s one of those homes where the pictures don’t quite do it justice because it commands such an impressive presence in real life. One of the reasons for this is that this enormous home is all on one level. Its classic lines defy trends, and its grand walkways and windows provide “wow” factor from the minute you walk the wide path up from the street and through its enormous double glass doors.

Once in, your eye is drawn immediately outwards again, through another massive feature window and onto a water feature and a landscaped avenue down the length of the property. Manicured gardens add to the sense of grandeur.
The grand entrance is just the start of a home that was built in 2001 and was awarded by the Housing Industry Association for residential excellence. It is a special space for relaxing, spreading out and feeling aesthetically blessed.

Cleverly designed, the home is divided into two wings – an expansive open plan kitchen, dining and living room down one side, which then leads to a parents’ retreat, complete with a large walk-in wardrobe and ensuite. Parents have double doors leading to a private terrace and views across that beautiful backyard oasis. There is also a formal dining room with views across the city as well as views into a custom-built wine room with storage for 50 dozen bottles.

Down the other wing of the house are three bedrooms, all with built-in robes, a large study (which could become a fifth bedroom), and another large bathroom.

But that is the most conventional part of that side of the house. In what will be a drawcard for families who love to enjoy the good times together, there is an enormous informal family room and a gigantic undercover outdoor entertaining area that really must be seen to be believed. It is hard to know what is more impressive, the cedar-lined sauna or the large indoor spa bath, both of which are located next to a giant billiard table. To live here would be to access full spa treatments in the privacy of your own living room.

The area is enclosed with concertina doors and fully retractable screens, meaning you can choose to be inside or outside depending on the weather. With one wall dedicated to a large gas barbecue with a built in range, one cannot help but imagine how easy it would be to entertain large gatherings. Tiled floors means nobody will care about wet feet from the spa or any spills coming off the long dining table.

This home was built ahead of its time and includes every amenity required for comfort and security – from the in-slab heating to the intercom, solar panels, security system and automatic irrigation. There is an enormous three-car garage with a tonne of internal space for a workshop or storing everything an active family may require. Its location also makes it ideal for trips into Civic, Majura Park, Pialligo or even the airport.

But even the busiest families may slow down as they drive up the sweeping driveway and see their beautiful home spread before them. Because the spa and sauna beckon…
There’s nothing to do except move in and revel in the space, seclusion and architectural flair.
