Canberra Girls Grammar Junior School’s Learning in Action Morning is a chance for prospective students and their families to experience firsthand what the Junior School has to offer.
Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a Canberra Girls Grammar (CGGS) Junior School student is really like? On Tuesday 10 September, CGGS is opening its doors so you can find out.
“While all the learning on display happens for students over the course of a week, we are condensing the experience into a morning to give a rich snapshot of life at our school,” explains Mrs Angela Whitaker, Head of Junior School.
At the Junior School Learning in Action Morning, visitors can view or join in with classroom learning in core subject areas, and get a taste of CGGS’ innovative Signature Programs that aim to develop students’ emotional strengths and community values.
Specialist lessons including Physical Education, Art, Music, French, and Religion and Philosophy will also be on offer on the day.
“When children spend a day at the Junior School or when families become part of our community they often share their surprise at the depth and breadth of learning at CGGS and the range of programs we offer,” she says.
“We are proud of the quality of learning and teaching at CGGS and want to showcase the great things that happen at our school every day.”
The Learning in Action morning will begin at 9 am with a light breakfast in the Junior School veggie garden. Prospective students and their families will be provided with information about the lessons that are on show and where to find them.
Then, there will be three half-hour sessions that visitors can choose to drop in and out of, as well as exploring the whole campus, including the Early Learning Centre (ELC). Staff and student ambassadors will be available throughout the morning to answer any questions.
CGGS is also excited to share the news that boys’ enrolment will be extended up to Year Three in 2020, giving boys the chance to participate in the highly successful Signature Program for the first time. CGGS already has both boys and girls enrolled from the ELC to the end of Year 2.
“We are confident that we provide an excellent education for both girls and boys. After listening carefully to the parents of children in our ELC and Junior Primary regarding the needs of their family, we are extending the offering of a CGGS education to boys until the end of Year 3.
“The teaching and learning at CGGS is the best in Canberra so who wouldn’t want that experience for their child—girl or boy.”
